Unlike its aroma, it’s good, but not great, and the barely noticable high alcohol makes up in part for its lack of complexity. RateandPillage (417), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 3, 2005 Pours copper with a thin off-white head. Lots of malt and very little hops in the aroma. Flavor is the same. Balance is too much to the malt for me on this one. Palidor19 (1792), Brandon, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 29, 2005 Packs a strong wallop at first sip!!medium texture but powerful flavor, spices and slight taste of citrus, malt is abundant but its loaded with hops flavoring as well. Bitter after-taste.
Stong ABV makes this a wonderful night cap. Enjoy!!!

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 27, 2005 Amber color with a thin head. Sweet malt aroma with a hit of hops. Very dry and malty taste with a little hops at the end, but not so much it overwhelms the malt. Interesting... badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 24, 2005 Clear deep red body, medium off-white head. Deep caramels, dark fruit, toast, and piney hops aroma. Classic barleywine flavor of dark fruits, caramel, toast, and plenty of piney, citrusy hops. Nice balance between sweet malts and piney hops, with a bit of an alcohol kick. Very typical of West Coast barleywines, and that’s a good thing. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 23, 2005 Quite possibly my favorite beer at the winter beer tasting I hosted last night. I probably enjoyed the Arrogant Smoked Bastard Ale more, but that wasn’t part of the official tasting. Thanks Slikwily for sending both of them! Rich, malty aroma with some hops evident, but not nearly as hoppy as say like the SN Big Foot. Particalia visible in the body. Nice lace. Really nice, perfectly balanced flavor. Smooth for a barley wine. ChrisPants (317), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
