Nose is sweet with toast, caramel, and a dry wooden aroma. Flavor is rather toasty and bready with hints at apricot followed by a residual bittering citrus character. This is a fairly clean IPA with the components meshing together in a drinkable package. I would like a little more distinct, separate hop qualities, but to each his own. This is not so bad. dwedin (238), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 29, 2008 Chill hazed amber with white head. More malt than hops in the aroma but still some grassy and resin in there. Medium body, mild malt, and smooth bitterness make this a very drinkable IPA. HomeBrewHawk (273), De Soto, Kansas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2008 12oz brown bottle served in a shaker pint. Poured a hazy gold with a finger of white head that dissipated pretty quickly. Citrus hop aroma with a good dose of caramel malt. Medium body with a solid malt backbone. Hops taste a little "soapy". Good amount of hop bitterness. Nice balanced, but nothing spectacular. drawde (115), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 22, 2008 Why do I have a bias against Mendo brewing? Is it because when I grew up, knowing nothing about beer, the only mendo I’d see and drink was Red Tail Ale, and I hated it? But Red Tail is an amber ale, and I’ve learned that I just don’t dig that style yet, so I can’t blame Mendo. That said, I’m pleasantly suprised with this one. Nice balance of apricot and a little grapefruit. Not for those of us looking to burn off our tounge (and sometimes that’s me), but this is a good, solid, well-balanced IPA. gpekar (225), Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 20, 2008 Poured a clear golden amber color with an off-white nice foamy head that left nice lacing throughout the glass. Noticable carbination bubbles rising in the glass. The short coming of the beer was that it didn’t have much of an aroma. There was a nce initial hop bite and a good bitter finish. The flavor lasted for a nice long time. The flavor and hoppiness were very good. Strong enough to be a double IPA. Very good BigMilly8 (376), Holiday, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 19, 2008 From bottle : Pours a clear golden color with a little white frothy head, that leaves nice lacing. Decent hop aroma, piney hops. Taste is pretty nice, nice hop bite, a little bitterness on the back end, and pretty smooth going down. Medium body, a great ipa to sit down and drink a sixer of. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 19, 2008 This is a pretty good everyday IPA, somewhere between a British and American style. It begins with an American hop bite, with a grapefruit rind bite, and also a spicy locker room sweatiness and a bit of tangelo fruitiness. I don’t know if I’d peg the malts as definitely maris otter, but its a heavy thick breadiness with a touch of caramel. The malts come forward in the flavor, introducing the hop flavors rather than waiting in the background. I like this. The finish is balanced. Color is a rich orangey amber, almost too clear looking, with a thick creamy 2 finger head. raiderfost (158), virginia beach, Virginia, USA
