Commercial Description:
White Hawk is a traditional IPA .The IPA recipe is based on the original 1880 brew that was sent to India for the British troops. The advent of India Pale Ale was born of a need to supply beer in the 1800's to British troops in India. This hearty, heavily hopped ale was brewed to endure the rigors of the long voyage from Great Britain.

White Hawk Original IPA was launched in California in early 2002 to meet the demand for a unique India Pale Ale. Consumer response for White Hawk IPA exceeded expectations and it is fast gaining a loyal following both in 6 pack and on draft.

Not as typically citrus hopped as you’d expect, perhaps a bit heavy in the malt for the style. Nice citrus start but odd matly flavors take over. Not quite balanced. Not bad, but definitely too much carbonation.

12 oz. bottle. Two big mistakes are easy to make with this rather good IPA: 1. Drinking it too cold. Flavor fully blooms only after a slight warm up period. 2. Pouring it too gently. The overcarbonation of this beer necessitates a good healthy "bounce" on the bottom of your glass. Otherwise you might think you opened a ginger ale by mistake. Follow these two simple rules and you got a darn fine beverage to enjoy.

Pours a cloudy orange with small white head. Aroma of citrus fruit, malt ,and hops. Same thing for the flavor, quite uninteresting for an IPA. A tad bit of alcohol comes through, and a bit heavy (not refreshing).

Color is a cloudy brownish-orange with lots of sediment floating in the glass. Smells of soured fruit and hops. The hops dominates the flavor almost completely masking the sour grapefruit taste. Finishes dry and bitter. Very little complexity or balance, this beer leaves alot to be desired.

Poured from the bottle to a reddish-orange with thin off-white head that lingered well and left good lacing on the glass. Nose is a combination of grassy hops and sweet malt, and the mouthfeel of this fairly carbonated beer is somewhat tingly. Flavor is initially grassy hop, but the sweet malt blends in well to leave a nice, long, rounded finish. Not a bad beer at all.

Golden colored with a white head that leaves a moderate amount of lacing. Aroma of toasted malt and resin. Flavor of grapefruit and caramel. Floral and resiny hops in the finish. A tasty IPA.

Bottle. Aroma has oily, herbal hops, some sour, slightly sweet malt smells. Flavor is sharply bitter, with a slight alcohol bite. A little grassiness, as well. Sweetness and lingering bitterness in the finish. Atypical west coast IPA, but probably closer to the traditional style. I like.
