Commercial Description:
White Hawk is a traditional IPA .The IPA recipe is based on the original 1880 brew that was sent to India for the British troops. The advent of India Pale Ale was born of a need to supply beer in the 1800's to British troops in India. This hearty, heavily hopped ale was brewed to endure the rigors of the long voyage from Great Britain.

White Hawk Original IPA was launched in California in early 2002 to meet the demand for a unique India Pale Ale. Consumer response for White Hawk IPA exceeded expectations and it is fast gaining a loyal following both in 6 pack and on draft.

Honey colored with nice white head. Aroma is sweet and with honey and minimal hop aroma. Taste is strange... somewhere between English and American examples with the yeast and hops respectively. Rather thick mouthfeel. $2/12oz

Medium, slightly fluffy yellowish head over clear orange-amber beer. Very discreet nose, bit if candi sugar, liqueurish orangepeel; exotic fruit with mainly lytchee. Quite bitter, cookies with glazing that becomes sweet upon dissolving in the oral cavity. Bit metallic bitter, bitter gourd if not as aggressive. Warming up, a not very pleasant flavour, reminding of coffee milk gone bad. But my main issue with this beer lies in the mouthfeel, that, despite being well-carbonated, the beer is life- and listless, like a British kegged ale. Disappointing - certainly for a beer from Mendocino, that made one of my eyeopeners for USA beers. Thanks to whomever bestowed this upon me.

Another IPA shared with the Philly gents- Slight hazy gold with a thin white head. The hop blend was leaving an acidic sweet bitterness that seemed to go south on this one. Fizzy and dry.

Bottled. Thanks larsniclas. Amber colour. Clean lager aroma with citric hops and doughy maltiness, bit like a hoppy pils that went wrong. Somewhat bitter and cardboardy with traces of strawberries. Pretty dry and with moderate bitterness.

Light orange or dark yellow? Hard to say. Active with a white head. Bitter hops in the aroma, very stiff. Dusty smells of hay or straw cereals. Once it hits your tongue it’s all big in-your-face hops which mellow out a little into a smooth airy finish. Almost overwhelming but damn fine none the less. Bubbly and bright, not too thick with a light oily residue on the tongue. Pretty good if a little hop heavy. Who can really complain about that though?

Bottle (35 cl), thanks larsniclas. Shady deep golden, medium white head. Spicy and slightly fruity hop aroma, with some pine needles. Dry with moderate bitterness. Mediocre.

Slight hazy golden color, white head. Malty and weak hoppy scent. Acidic, sweet, alcohol taste. Metallic aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, medium bitterness.

22oz bottle from my cousin out in fresno.....pours a semiclear apple cider brown with a thick soapy white head....aroma of toasty/biscuity caramel malt and light pine ...flavors of sweet grainy malts upfront that eventually gives way to some piney bitterness in the finish. malts seem to dominate this brew although there is a lingering bitter aftermath. medium carbonation. lacking overall.
