Commercial Description:
White Hawk is a traditional IPA .The IPA recipe is based on the original 1880 brew that was sent to India for the British troops. The advent of India Pale Ale was born of a need to supply beer in the 1800's to British troops in India. This hearty, heavily hopped ale was brewed to endure the rigors of the long voyage from Great Britain.

White Hawk Original IPA was launched in California in early 2002 to meet the demand for a unique India Pale Ale. Consumer response for White Hawk IPA exceeded expectations and it is fast gaining a loyal following both in 6 pack and on draft.

12oz bottle: appearance is cloudy brown withe off white head, aroma is pretty faint with hops and hint of malt, flavor decent amount of citrus hops and also a weird twist in the malt of this IPA with a lot of nuttiness but tastes slightly stale.

Clear caramel body with an inch thick top. Aroma is spicy , floral, citrus and sweet malt. A fairly even blend of the hops to yeast to malt. Just a bit bland even with a little hops bite.

Aroma of piney and floral hopping, some caramel backing, enough to make you think you have a American Pale Ale rather then an IPA,taste is that mildly hop dominated soft slightly sweet backing with that pleasantly soft bitter finish. It is done true to style, sometimes you think you should rank beers like this a little higher, but its so sessionable, meaning so safe,so cautious, its a kiss on the lips instead of the tongue down the throat

Golden pour with nice head. Aroma had caramel and some hops. Malty but mostly hoppy with a little bit of bitterness in the finish. Smooth decent pallet. Overall ok IPA.

Decent hoppy aroma of pine, resin and earthy notes...followed by some caramel malt. Flavor is very similar with a mild bitterness in the finish. Decent IPA overall.

12oz bottle. Found these for a good price at Trader Joe’s. While not spectacular I found this to be a very drinkable IPA. A good low cost beer to have on hand though it is could definitely do with some more hops if it wants to compete with some of the other California IPAs.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 11/14/09

Aroma: The nose has some floral hops, some citrus fruits, grapefruit, biscuit/bread malts
Appearance: Pours a clear amber-orange color, off-white head, some lace
Flavor: Taste is mostly the citrus and floral hop bitterness, dominating everything else
Palate: It has a medium body and a relatively dry mouthfeel
Overall Impression: Overall, this is a decent IPA, but it just lacks the nice defining characteristics of a top quality IPA. More so, it shoots for a bitter IPA, and while it hits that somewhat, it still feel too much on the one-dimensional side to me.
