Light brown head about a quarter of an inch thick fades out to a film leaving little lacing. Sweet chocolatey aromas with a touch of coffee. Medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavor is balanced throughout. Chocolate malt flavors are balanced immediately by a hop bitterness. Lingering hop presence on the back of the tongue. Pretty nice! Drew (2409), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 23, 2005 Nice dark brown/black body, short tan head, good lacing. This porter had a good amount of flavors - roasty, chocolate, hoppy finsish. Body had a real creamyness to it, yet still seemed too thin. Overall, it didn’t add up to anything spectacular, but it’s a nice porter for a cold winter evening. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 22, 2005 Black color with a very thin head. Chocolate and coffee aroma. The chocolate taste is pretty bitter. The malts are dry. Not really a porter that would be labeled as refreshing, but tasty for sure. Dorwart (1820), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 20, 2005 Thick dark brown head. Frothy on top. Settles nicely. Light carbonation. Very impressive lacing. Nice roasty aroma with a hint of dry roasted peanuts and hops. Color is essentially black with a some red/brown highlites. Nice bitterness and hops presence in the flavor. Was not expecing that. Roasty with a hint of coffee and dark chocolate. Nice bitter finish. Creamy palate. A very good and hoppy porter. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 19, 2005 This porter pours with a dark brown body with red highlights topped by a thin to medium thick, quickly disappearing head with come lacing. The aroma is slighlty sweet and roasty with a pronounced coffee note and a touch of bitterness. The flavor is slightly sweet with a bitter undertone, lots of roastiness and some coffee. Full bodied, smooth and slightly dry. skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 18, 2005 courtesy of JPDIPSOA solid, unspectacular winter warmer. The pour is a little thin, with a sparse head, but the greeting of nutmeg and cocoa allows me to quickly overcome that. Flavor is heavily roasted, but with many layers of chocolate. The hops even stand up to fight, and have a say in the crisp finish. Mouthfeel is slick and flat (anything but creamy) - with some residual dryness from the hops. This beer wants to be Alpha Klaus, but is relegated to the budget alternative. Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 15, 2005 Bottle. Nice black body with a thick foamy beige head. Very attractive beer. Hoppy chocolate nose. First flavors to come out are bitter chocolate, medium hops, dark coffee, some residual sweetness, and caramel/grape. Finish is very sharp and semi-clean. This beer exemplifies how to use hops in a porter. This is an excellent beer that is underrated, IMO. Thanks to lmgraz1 for sending me this beer!
