This stuff pours almost black with a thin tan head and lots of lacing. Aroma is typical porter. The taste is spot on, with flavors of black licorice, bitter hops and lavender. Nicely done. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 23, 2005 Blue Max Liquors, Burnsville, Mn - 12 oz bottle. Pours a coal black with a thick, frothy mocha colored head. Strong aroma of bittersweet chocolate and ripe fruit. Flavor has some good bitter chocolate notes with a bit of roasted coffee in there as well. Very smooth porter. Mouthfeel is just a tad thin though for a "winter" porter - but still a serviceable beverage. Panzuriel (995), Westerville, Ohio, USA

Nose is of deep roasted malt. Taste is straight black coffee dry and toasty. Mouthfeel is medium thick. Aftertaste is waves of building coffee bitters. KariCupcake (214), Lenox, Massachusetts, USA

Dry and roasty. Hints at vegetal (like a bunch of these Mendocino beers seem to do) but big roasty coffee comes in to make me forget all about any unpleasantness and a woody driness finishes. Really nice porter. ZOSOMAN12020 (27), Malta, New York, USA
