Commercial Description:
This Select Special Edition Winter Ale is a full-flavored "Warming" ale. It is brewed with a luscious blend of chocolate and carmel malts. Balanced with generous amounts of Warrior and Cascade hops, this rich, creamy Winter Ale has as smooth, robust finish, and a delicate warming spiciness. Note: brewed at the Saratoga facility primarily for the east coast market.

12 oz bottle. What better way to enjoy a Winter Ale then iting on your porch in July? This stuff pours almost black with a thin tan head and lots of lacing. Aroma is typical porter. The taste is spot on, with flavors of black licorice, bitter hops and lavender. Nicely done.

Blue Max Liquors, Burnsville, Mn - 12 oz bottle. Pours a coal black with a thick, frothy mocha colored head. Strong aroma of bittersweet chocolate and ripe fruit. Flavor has some good bitter chocolate notes with a bit of roasted coffee in there as well. Very smooth porter. Mouthfeel is just a tad thin though for a "winter" porter - but still a serviceable beverage.

Inky black opaque liquid light does not pass. small but persistent tan head. Nose is of deep roasted malt. Taste is straight black coffee dry and toasty. Mouthfeel is medium thick. Aftertaste is waves of building coffee bitters.

Black color with a brown foamy top. Smells like roasted tree roots. Tastes like roasted yumminess.

Bottle. Black color with a thick dark brown head. Big roasted malty aroma. Nice mouthfeel and a slightly chalky roasted choco coffee taste.

Bottled from the New York location. Solid porter. Very black. Missing some roastyness. Nice finish. Good beer.

04.23.05 Tap at TAP NY. Nearly black with huge head. Big cascades on aroma was a shock. Dry and roasty. Hints at vegetal (like a bunch of these Mendocino beers seem to do) but big roasty coffee comes in to make me forget all about any unpleasantness and a woody driness finishes. Really nice porter.

Picked up one of last 3 cases at Saratoga Brewery this weekend for $15.00. Good deal, as I think it’s actually better in the bottle than on tap-less oily-tasting.
