Bottle. A hazy amber beer with a fine off-white head. The aroma is very sweet with strong notes of hops and caramel. The flavor is sweet with lots of hops and grapefruit, and an alcohol presence, that bites the tongue, leading to a very bitter end.

Bottle. Amber colour with a nice fine head. Nice aroma of heavy caramel, sweetness and hops with notes of citrus. Flavour of sweetness from the malt, caramel and ends up bitter, but where is the rest of the hops for a IIPA?

Sean [illinismitty] recommended that I try this beer and I happen to stumble upon a bottle of it that same day... This beer pours a hazy, but shiny copper color with a small yellowish/light orange head. The aroma is sweet candied orange and caramel malt (the hoppiness seems to have mellowed out a bit). The flavor is much like the aroma with a deep hop bitterness that slowly makes its way to the forefront. For the most part, the taste is much like the aroma with a rich caramel maltiness and some candied oranginess. I really think that the hoppiness that probably dominated this beer has mellowed away, but the residual flavors hint at what it was probably like. This beer is medium bodied, quite smooth and almost creamy on the palate. Overall this is still a really good brew and the alcohol is well hidden for 9.0% ABV. This has proved to be a nice warmer for a cold night like tonight and I feel fortunate to have tried this particular version of the Mendocino Winter Ale before it had completely disappeared from the store shelves... 12 oz bottle from The Party Source.

12 oz bottle. Clear amber with a lumpy tan head. Sheety lace. Tangerine and cardamon. Taste is caramel orange, pear and drying toffee. Some oily pine bitter. An IPA and a half but without much depth.

The aroma is like sweet bread and pine hops and caramel. The appearance is amber gold with a nice foamy head. The flavor is decent. It has all the elements from the aroma plus citrus. The palate is thin but smooth and the aftertaste is hoppy and bitter. This is a nice IIPA.

Deep gold/amber in color with a medium white head. Aroma of citrus fruit, oranges, tangerines, and lemon zest. Full bodied, malty sweetness balances hop bitterness nicely. Refreshing hoppy character. A Great IPA.

12OZ bottle via degarth(thanks). Pours a clear amber with a large head that leaves lots of spidery lace on the Pilsner glass. Very nice aroma with lots of floral and citrusy hops. Hmmm this is an interesting drink. Something like a cross betweena brown ale and an ipA? It is hoppy with lots of pine, grapefruit and a tad bit of orange, but it has that nutty malty brown ale taste as well. It is thin bodied and easy to drink with an almost astringant metallic bitter aftertaste.
