egajdzis (3598), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 1, 2008 Poured a murky, red brown color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of cherries, light vinegar, some caramel, and nuts. Taste was tart up front, light cherry, wood, and saccharine. Tart finish, nice. hopdog (5525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 1, 2008 33cl bottle acquired in trade with CaptainCougar (big thanks for this!). Bottle labeled BB 05-2004. Poured a medium to deeper mahogany color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of vinegar, cherries, woody, and caramel. Tastes of vinegar, cherries, berries, and some wood. Sweet and sour. Lighlty tart. This may have been old, but I really was into it. TomDecapolis (3122), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 31, 2008 Thanks to hopdog. So the last rating for this one was in April of 2005. Pours a hazy brown with a ton of chestnut notes and a smaller bubbly tan head that left some lace. Aroma of floral, funky, caramel, woody notes, perfume sweet and malty. Flavor of cherries, woody, light tartness, malty sweetness, caramel and a touch of sourness. Decent mix of sour/sweet. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jul 15, 2007 Bottle from Michael Jackson Rare Beer Club, sampled on 7/14/2003: Dark ruby brown color with a thick lacing head. Sweet and sour sauce aroma. Very strange flavor unlike anything I’ve ever had. Starts caramel malty sweet and woody with underlying tartness throughout and finishes fruity like bing cherries blended with strawberries. What it lacks in balance, it makes up for in complexity. A very unique beer. If you think you know all there is about Flemish sour ales, try this! Dalle (1146), Skørping, Denmark Apr 28, 2005 Bottle. Dark red-brown with medium-sized short lasting head. Sour! malt-vinegar, lactic, swet with some dark chocolate, dry finish, full bodied with abv taken into consideration. Yes, a very good beer. Only 3,5% ? Thanks a lot Jbrus. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 10, 2004 Young oak casks soured by the touch of red wine vinegar...Sugar-laden berries for dessert to top off a quite tasty rendition for its lightness...Dawn waking up the countryside... Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Apr 4, 2004 Another sincere thank you to my pal CaptainCougar for such a rare bottle Dark ruby brown, big sticky off-white head, long-lasting for a tart beer although this one is only 3.5%. Notes of sour oak, cherries, sweet caramel and blood in the aroma. Very malty palate, spicy (nutmeg) without too much sourness and a big caramel tone (actually the label proposes that this is brewed using caramel). It makes for an original, but not as pleasant example of the style to my tastes. Medium bodied, very smooth and easy going. The session flemish sour and I like it. Exceptional drinkability and nevertheless extremely flavorfull for this ABV. theakston (64), arlington, Virginia, USA Jun 27, 2003 dark red / brown. small head. funky off-yeast aroma. first taste is sour and intriguing then the sacharin hits and takes it all back. Why produce a sour ale then add sweeteners to negate it? we can take it!
The sacharin ruined this for me.
Would like to try an unsweetened version.
