Commercial Description:
This is the version sold in the US. The brewer's original intent was for a beer of this strength but limitations proprietary to the Dutch market led to him brewing a lower alcohol, sweetened version there. When he started exporting to the US, the original concept of the beer was chosen.
Produced at Gulpener's De Zwarte Ruiter (Black Knight) brewpub, Mestreechs Aajt is a blended beer in which one of the component beers is subject to a wild yeast fermentation and is aged for a year in unlined wood. Very refreshing, traditional style brew.

Poured a clear dark brown with a reddish tint and minimal head. Aroma is tart with some cherry, earthiness, leather and wood. Tart flavor slightly sweet, woody and a dry slightly bitter finish. Light to medium body.

A tasty flemish sour that’s remarkably like Duchesse de Bourgogne. Very sweet yet also slightly tart. Quite true to the best the style has to offer. Delicious golden red/brown color with a thin beige head. Enjoy.

Pour is a deep ruby red with no head at all. Aroma is very interisting. Its sort of a winey almost vinegar aroma. Just the right amount of mustyness to leave you guessing. FLavor is a sour cherry with a woody backbone. Kinda weak flavor brings down the beers rating but it is still a very interestion brew. A bit more alcohol could help.

Deep clear ruby color. mild aroma of cherry and acidity, also nuts. Taste a bit vinegary and fruity, but not enough depth of either. Finish sour and chalky. Not bad.

Dark ruby body when held up to the light. Traces of a head. Aroma of sour cherries and wood. There is a hint of leather. The taste is slightly sour with chocolate, cherries and some apples. Very light in the mouthfeel. Finishes with dried apricots. This is a great summer beer.

A nice balance of vinegar sour and cherry sweet in the aroma. Sweat (in a good way) yeast aroma. Deep ruby-red color with a nice, tall off white head. Moderately sweet and sour at the beginning with a moderately sweet and bitter finish. Sourness fades at the end and is replaced by cherry tartness. Medium full body, slick texture, average carbonation. The bottom line is: I wish the sourness stuck around for a while longer, but very solid. Thanks for splitting Em.

Re-re-rate...I’ve had this two times since the original rating and it stays at 4.0...good stuff.

Pours with a deep burgundy body topped by a medium thick quickly disappearing head with some lacing. The aroma is sour and vinious with a slight malt undertone. The flavor is slighlty sour and vinious with a slight fruity sweetness. Medium bodied, smooth and slighlty dry.
