Commercial Description:
This is the version sold in the US. The brewer's original intent was for a beer of this strength but limitations proprietary to the Dutch market led to him brewing a lower alcohol, sweetened version there. When he started exporting to the US, the original concept of the beer was chosen.
Produced at Gulpener's De Zwarte Ruiter (Black Knight) brewpub, Mestreechs Aajt is a blended beer in which one of the component beers is subject to a wild yeast fermentation and is aged for a year in unlined wood. Very refreshing, traditional style brew.

Poured a mahogany color with a small head. Initial aroma was big sour with some vinegar. Black cherries and more sour in the taste. Slightly astringent with a dryish finish. Reminded me of the OLD Fantome Black Ghost of 3 or so years ago tho slightly watery. Probably because of the low ABV which I found to be really the only drawback. Update-Now that I have had several bottles of this stuf I love it more and more. Obviously not a session beer but a near godly sour nonetheless.

Deep reddish color with small tan head. Aroma is slightly sour with a definite balsamic vinegar like base. Flavor is also slightly sour, malty, some cherry notes, a touch of sweetness. Palate is a little thin.

Pours with a little beige foam that is gone within seconds.Dark brown but with maybe a shade of deepgarnet tossed in for good measure.big wonderful nose of sour cherry, almost has a spicey, not like mexican food, but a nice aromatic spice.Funky in a cool way with that cherry aromatic funk on a sour sleigh sliding on over my taste buds.Dry finish. Not my style but a good brew.

I just had this on draft at the Drafting Room in Exton, and I was pleasantly surprised. Poured ruby with a minor white head. Aroma of huge cherry, malt, merlot. Tastes malty, with big cherry, fruit, and merlot flavor and a smooth, crisp finish. Very nice.

Deep mahogany, nice mocha head. Nose sour and sweet, some interesting coffee characters in the malts. Flavor starts sweet, then comes on with a strong aggressive vinegar sourness and tart apple fruitiness. Ends with malts of a very bready and toasty nature.

Super delicious beer, dark mahogany in color with just enough head, nice lacing around the glass, sour nose with hints of raspberry & other fruits, both sweet & sour flavors in the body with more notes of raspberry & apple, very drinkable, would make an excellent beer for dessert

On tap. Poured a dark mahogany color with a small white head. Aroma and tastes of sour apple and some caramel. After drinking 5 IPAs tonight, this was a nice change up (I used this as my dessert beer tonight).

Very dark brown color, almost black. Head was a reasonable amount, and had a bit that lingered. The aroma is a nice sourness, with a somewhat acidic feel. In fact, the aroma makes you think this is more sour that it really is. Once its warmed up a bit, its a very nice sweetness similar to cherries. The mouthfeel to this is a very nice rubbery smoothness.
