Crafty07 (328), Lexington, Kentucky, USA May 14, 2008 This "American Dark Lager" is not a bock and is only marginally malty compared to other offering by this unholy ’beer’ conglomerate, Anheuser-Busch.
This is a nostalgia beer for me as this USED to be the only drinkable beer you could find nearly anywhere in the US
Thank God for Sam Adams and Guinesss is all I can say.
Still, it’s not an entirely terrible beer.
mctous (98), Herndon, Virginia, USA Jul 6, 2008 Amber Bock opens with a light, frothy head which dissipates quickly. The aroma nicely balances caramel malt and noble hops. While not very complex, the caramel malt comes through cleanly, with light but firm hops and just a whiff of lager-yeast sulfur. The mouthfeel has plenty of body and leaves some malt sweetness. While not my first choice, Anheuser-Busch still makes very good lagers when they don’t add rice! subcell (94), Portsmouth, Virginia, USA Jun 30, 2008 I really enjoy this beer on tap and in bottle. It is nice and dark, malty and has a nice body. If you are a fan of dark beers that are sweeter and maltier that this is a good one. neo_hippie2 (89), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jun 28, 2008 Ah, I was pleasantly suprised with this one. Finally, a michelob that I can call at least somewhat respectable. Pours a deep amber with a nice foam head. Smells interesting and sweet, caramel on the nose. Has a rather sweet taste in the mouth and it does go down as smooth as they brag it does so it gets points for drinkability. However, I challenge you to comment on the hop character of this beer...thats right, there is none. But, that aside, for the price of this stuff (about 7.00 a six pack for me) and considering who it is made by, I was impressed and I recommend it. posikyle (143), USA Jun 25, 2008 Not bad for a macro. Nice dark amber color, thick head, malty taste. Only drawbacks were alcoholic bite in the end and $10 price tag at roller derby match. bluemooner (54), Rogers, Minnesota, USA Jun 24, 2008 Pours an attractive amber color with very thin, creamy white head. The appearence of this beer is the best quality about it. It tastes nothing like it looks. A rather grainy, somewhat bitter flavor to it, and quite watered down.
