Amber pour with reddish highlights, along with a short, creamy off-white head. Aroma of vanilla beans, a bunch of caramel, and assorted candy. Exceptionally sweet, with a cloying blend of caramel and vanilla dominating. No bourbon characteristic to it, and just the faintest hint of oak. Just too much like candy on the palate, and alcohol made enough of an impression in the brew to clash with the candy. I do applaud AB for the effort, though. fatty (363), Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, USA

Smells like michelob with vanilla beans. Very vanilla flavor, sweet butter balance. Medium palate with a little bite in the finish. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/20 | Nov 17, 2005 Sampled at the 3rd Annual Festival of Wood & Barrel-aged Beers held at Goose Island (Wrigleyville branch), Chicago, IL. Served from brown bottle. Strong amber lager aged with vanilla beans in bourbon barrels. Clear reddish amber hued with no discernable head. Intense aroma of sweet malt and toffee. No discernable carbonation. Medium bodied that starts with light sweet malt, toffee and bubble gum (Juicy Fruit) flavors and finishes with slight sweetness and light bitterness. An drinkable beer but the pronounced synthetic tasting bubble gum flavor could be overpowering to some folks. natedoggkc (164), Lenexa, Kansas, USA

Very vanilla on the nose. There is a lot of vanilla in the taste with a little oak in there as well. I can get a little sense of the alcohol after aged for 7 months in a cellar. This would be a nice one to drink during the next holiday season. xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA

Bullet bottle (750 ml)
Recent bottling, celebrated 12/06
Moderate pour into accompanying tulip glasses.
Poured a clear dark amber with an average mostly diminishing head.
Smelt of strong fake vanilla extract and faint bourbon.
Taste was upfront strong sweet imitation vanilla followed by more sweet fake ’nilla, although more subdued and a light grain and bourbon oak bitterness. Palate was medium light to medium bodied, creamy, lively carbonated, lightly alcoholic.
Overall, a sweet vanilla beer. Too sweet. It covers up any other taste that could be found, although I doubt there is much to uncover underneath. Bourbon oak taste seemed more present last year. pivo (2537), Germany
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 12, 2006 Light sweet nose, dark copper color, fizzy dissappating head. Creamy vanilla body with no bitter. Like cream soda. Soapy mouthfeel. Smooth at times, but just odd overall and not so enjoyable. Keep trying, A-B - this ain’t it. screigh (262), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 11, 2006 I think this beer looked great in the glass and I liked the vanilla and sweet liquor smeel it has. Pored with no head at all. The beer is a clear copper color. A sort of weird vanilla taste with a candy feel too it. Has a sort of liquor overtone to it that cannot be placed. It also reminds me of cream soda. I was expecting more from this but at least AB is trying something different. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
