illinismitty (1407), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jun 9, 2008 Bottle from my uncle’s Memorial Day Party. Pours a deep brown with a frothy brown head. Looks nice, but it goes downhill from there. I expect to smell a porter, but what dominates the nose is that cheap industrial beer smell, with some faint dark roast. Mouthfeel has a prickly carbonation with a watery texture. Flavor of nuts and cheap wheat bread with an unpleasant astringent, husky grain finish. Label reads "All Malt- Carefully Crafted with Select Ingredients." I noticed they left out the word quality, which is obvious with this beer, the Marzen, and the Pale Ale. I actually don’t mind Michelob and Michelob Light, but these attempts at craft beer styles suck.
Ibrew2or3 (1685), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Aug 22, 2008 OK, why doesn’t a brewer with near infinite resources and claims to a wealth of brewing history not make a better Porter? I love the “All Malt” claim on the label just so you know it is legit. It poured out of the 12oz bottle with a deep amber body and thin tan head. The mild-meek aroma is mildly roasty malts with chocolate malts and a hint of fruity esters. The taste Is roasty up front and starts to climb the ladder toward burnt malts but decides to detour into a bit of caramelized malts mixing with chocolate malts but without any richness or depth. Ends nearly neutral with a mild malt tea sensation like taking a little sip of pre-pitched low gravity wort. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Aug 20, 2008 pours dark brown with red highlights and a one finger fluffy brown head. has a medium body with descent lacing and good carbonation. aroma is chocolate malt with a touch of caramel malt hops and coffee. flavors is the same as aroma but stronger especially the coffee. not bad of a session porter and probably one of abs’ best beers! SturmWulf (63), USA Aug 16, 2008 Very nice aroma of caramel, chocolate and a hint of roasted coffee. Poured a very deep brown with a reddish tinge. Fantastic light-tan head that was large, creamy with a touch of foam and it left thick lacing on the pint glass. Head very slowly thinned down a creamy cap. Flavor was very nice with a slightly sweet caramel, light roasted coffee with a light flavor of dark chocolate.
A light to medium body, with a slightly thin but slick texture, average carbonation with a abrupt, dry slightly bitter and sweet finish. I served this at 50 degrees in a pint glass. I hesitated buying this because its AB. But, I am glad I did buy it. This is a very nice Porter and while I have had better, I definitely have had a lot worse. A very, very good Porter by AB. I will definitely buy and drink again. GREAT JOB on this one Michelob! posty (3), Crestwood, Kentucky, USA does not count Aug 15, 2008 While not a bad porter, per se’, Michelob has once again produced a beer that is just too sweet. Sweet, thin molasses dominates the mild chocolate and roasty charateristics leaving one wanting more balance, more hop presence and a stronger, darker malt to underscore the syrupy tones. The beer does look nice, with a beige head of acceptable thickness and nice lacing. For the money it’s okay, but for two dollars more you can get a nice micro that surpasses this beer in every way. kp (6200), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Aug 13, 2008 Date: 07/17/2008
