Flavor is pretty lame--no yeast at all, little other than grainy with a little caramel to it. Finish is sugar. Disappointing--I remember a different beer when I was in TX. It is a style that you do not see a lot of, the notable exception being New Belgian Fat Tire. Fat Tire is a middle of the road type of beer, and Celis Pale Bock is much the same. This beer lacks the character of a Palm or DeKonnick, but like Fat Tire, is a nice, easy drinking beer. Celis Pale Bock pours to a slightly hazy, deep caramel color, with a thick, white head, and a moderate carbonation. Light aromas of pale and caramel malt, with some earthy yeast flood the nose. The palate is firm, with a good base of pale and caramel malt, with a hint of toasted malt flavor. This beer finishes with pale and caramel malt flavor up front, then ends with some earthy yeast flavor that lingers. A decent glass of beer, that would work well with a number of dishes, and a nice session beer. Like Fat Tire, I would enjoy knocking more than a few of these back watching a football game. I like this one, but understand why a lot of beer geeks wouldn’t be very impressed with this one. bubbleflubber (898), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 25, 2006 Pours a slightly hazy amber into the glass, with an initially decent head, but quickly diminishes. The nose is of faint caramel and banana bread notes. The flavors are quite subtle, nothing truly in the forefront that predominates. I pick up a definite banana bread essence, with semi-ripened banana effervescence. Also, there is a roasted nuttiness that shows up mid-pull. The malts are really underscored here, and the finish contains a hint of hops, but fades into sour grains. The mouthfeel is light.... and just skirts the edge of being both overcarbonated and watery. It misses the boat on "liveliness". It feels like a light take on a heavier offering. Cobra (1066), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA

The body was medium copper colored with a light khaki colored head. The aroma was amaretto with some booze. There was also some perfumne. The taste was weeird rotten almonds with some bitter orange peels. There was also some burnt bread crust. This is a strange one. bu11zeye (5621), Frisco, Texas, USA
