Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 24, 2009 Bottled. A hazy amber beer with an orangey head. The aroma has strong notes of hops and grass as well as medium notes of citrus and grapefruit. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and a hop bite leaving notes of lemon and grapefruit - lovely. imdownthepub (5089), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Oct 22, 2009 Bottled, 355ml plastic bottle with plastic screw cap. Soupy brown with no head. I don’t know if the plastic bottle thing was a past experiment, but it doesn’t seem to work. Mixed up, confused, slightly rancid fruit notes on the border of being undrinkable, but the iron gut managed to accept it. Very poor, which is a shame as it was a gift from a kind benefactor. JMerritt (1313), Macomb, Illinois, USA Sep 27, 2009 Sampled at 2009 WIU Performing Arts Society Beerfest. Clear golden with a small, off-white head that is mostly diminishing. Strange grainy, grape aroma - really sweet, perhaps a little nectarine. Seems really artificial. Rather high grain-alcohol flavor, a lot of husky wheat, sour straw, and a little black pepper. Moderately bitter with soft tannins and shoe leather. Lingering bitter finish. Moderately carbonated. Something was off with this - never would have pinpointed this as an IPA. RollinHard (748), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Sep 16, 2009 Bottle from Secret Santa. Pours hazy burnt orange with a medium sized long-lasting white head with moderate lacing. Aroma seems a wee bit old. Notes of pine, plants, old citrus/grapefruit, loose change (surely a sign of fatigue), and biscuits. Tastes of caramel, bread, light brown sugar, pine, grapefruit, wood, and the unfortunate metallic note is still there. Finishes with plenty of old citrus, toasted malt, wood, slight char and astringent tang. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel, slightly bigger feeling. This would be really good if fresher and unskunked, but what can you do. Signs point to "yes!", but experience says "it’s okay." ben4321 (953), Rockville, Maryland, USA Aug 31, 2009 August 2009 Beer of the Month Club , 8/31/09
Aroma: Really nice juicy citrus hop nose, some mild dough as well
Appearance: Clear copper-orange color, with a small head, and some decent lacing
Flavor: Hoppy, with a nice fresh flavor, some doughy malts as well
Palate: Medium body, drinkable, smooth, a bit dry
Overall Impression:
One of the better things I have gotten from this Beer of the Month Club gift that has overall been pretty disappointing (love the idea of getting beers by mail, but they keep sending me boring stuff from breweries I can find in stores). I was pretty happy when I opened and tasted this one, that is for sure.
thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 29, 2009 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a very hazy softly carbonated orange brown colored body and a fair lacing. The aroma was hoppy malty and dough. The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of hops. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Aug 22, 2009 12oz bottle at home with anap on august 22, 2009. Precipitously orange IPA with a sexy cream colored head. Aroma of hops and malted barley. Fresh, clean... Flavor more of the same with hints of grass or hay. Bold, but way drinkable. deyholla (506), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Aug 17, 2009 Bottle. Poured a clear gold with a white head. Looked to be highly carbonated. Aroma was full of citrus hops. Flavor was quite hoppy as well with citrus and piney flavor and a slight unpleasant undertone of wet wood.
