blankboy (3156), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 26, 2009 Draught at Coles, Buffalo, NY. Pours a very deep ruby with a small diminishing creamy beige head. Mild aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Slightly watery flavour of light roasted malt and just hints of coffee and chocolate. Average bodied. Just O.K., somewhat disappointing as it’s pretty dull. holdenn (1431), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 5, 2009 12 oz bottle from Tiffany’s apparently for $2.09. Pours a dark brown black dry bakers chocolate nose some nutty malts. Dry nutty bakers chocolate flavors light roasty flavors that are kinda blah and too light. Fizzy carbonation. Bitter slightly sweet flavors near the finish. Subpar porter, but drinkable. carlb (36), East Lansing, Michigan, USA Aug 11, 2009 Dark, chocolate-brown pour of medium viscosity. Three inch head formed. Creamy yet pocketed, persistent head that produces an attractive and heavy lacing. The nose speaks to chocolate and dark roasted coffee, but dissipates quickly leaving a very light hint of tangy fermentedness. Is that a hint of Brettanomyces? The body is silky and medium-full. The ale lingers nicely on the palate but ends with a very slight hint of . . .Brett? The malt and hops is nicely balanced. This beer is light and refreshing and could be a session ale. The alcohol is not noticeable. The hops and the restrained sour notes suggests it would be a great food beer as well. I would definitely try it again! Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Jul 19, 2009 Brought from Michigan by a friend. A nice looking beer being dark brown with lots of red highlights. A nice thick tan head that has great retention. Aroma is quite appetizing with dark fruit, roasted notes, coffee, smoke, and chocolate. This is a nice porter. A bit on the sweet side but I tend to have a sweet tooth when it comes to beer. Nice complex fruit notes, roasted nuts, coffee, chocolate. Hops are way in the background but adds some very nice texture to the taste. Body is more substantial than expected, especially after reading other ratings. I gotta go against the grain on this one and say it is under rated. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 3, 2009 12oz bottle from my buddy Steve - thanks, man! Dark brown pour with some ruby colors detectable. Average carbonation, slightly prickly head. Aroma of toasted malts and faint burnt toffee. Mouthfeel is thin, and the taste is just a bit ashy. More like a brown ale than a porter, and not an especially good one at that. MrBunn (1519), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 11, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark chocolate with a large (3 finger) head that is tan and a little frothy. Aromas are a somewhat weak mix of chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor is a better than expected (given past experience) mix of the above with a little bit of a leathery/nutty side to it. This is much fuller than I expected given the previous reviews and my experiences with some of MBC’s products. This is one of their stronger offerings as far as I’m concerned. HonkeyBra (1258), Lemont, Illinois, USA Apr 14, 2009 My girlfriend picked this up somewhere in Michigan. Dark brown pour, thin head. Flavor is light chocolate, a bit watery, some coffee. Is kind of more like a brown than a porter. trayns (237), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA Feb 6, 2009 Updated: Feb 16, 2009Growler straight from MBC. I hope I didn’t wait too long for this in the growler from MBC. It pours a nice black, thin, and virtually no head. It was very watery, thin taste, ever for a porter. I would not have guessed a higher ABV based on the thin, watered down taste.
