Commercial Description:
A wonderfully complex, deep ruby red-black Ale. Dark chocolate, coffee-like flavors are complimented by plenty of hop character with a hint of smokiness in the aftertaste. Robust, yet very drinkable.

Growler straight from MBC. I hope I didn’t wait too long for this in the growler from MBC. It pours a nice black, thin, and virtually no head. It was very watery, thin taste, ever for a porter. I would not have guessed a higher ABV based on the thin, watered down taste.

bottle - Pours dark brown with a thin tan head and a light chocolate malt aroma. The roast malt flavor has some light chocolate and coffee notes. It’s medium bodied at best and could stand to be more robust in both body and flavor intensity. It finishes mildly dry and I guess overall I’d say it’s alright.

A dark brown pour, but quite transluscent. Whittish head. Some light chocolate and earthy aromas, hint of hops. Some malt and yeast with caramel/chocolate. A little lactic and metallic finishing. A bit thin and not nearly roasty enough, malt or coffee. Honestly, tasted more like a nut brown than a porter. Drinkable enough though. I seriously wonder if somebody accidentally labeled their nut brown a porter.

Although it didn’t taste like a porter, I liked it. It tasted more like a sweet stout. Sweet, and not watery-thin like I hate. Slight roastiness, but more sweet character. What I liked about it was that it wasn’t too watery, and had some solid body to it. Drinkable, and nicely malted with hints of roasted chocolate. Not too bad.

Pours a deep clear brown with a thin head- some lace. Aroma is toast caramel chocolate and light cardboard ox. Some light roaste, milk chocolate, paper and cardboard light sherry ox, with some milky lacto sourness. Dry without any body. Meh.

Draft sample at new brewpub. Poured dark brown color with a medium brown creamy head that mostly lasted and had good lacing. Moderate roasted coffe and chocolate malty aroma. Medium to full body with a creamy texture. Medium balanced roasted flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

a near black liquid which refracts a ruby streak of light off the bottom of the glass. an attractive beige head sits atop leaving a bit of fine-bubbled lacing. lots of sweetened cocoa in the aroma along with some green earthy hops and the slightly astringent acidity of half-roasted (partly green/partly brown) coffee beans. the flavor is predictable from the aroma, but not quite as sweet as the aroma would indicate. dusty peaty finish which is a little bit of a plot twist at the end, making it an intriguing beer to drink. enjoyable.
