Commercial Description:
A wonderfully complex, deep ruby red-black Ale. Dark chocolate, coffee-like flavors are complimented by plenty of hop character with a hint of smokiness in the aftertaste. Robust, yet very drinkable.

(12oz bottle) Big brown head atop a brown-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, roast, coffee, light anise, burnt. Taste is moderately sweet, roast, chococoffee, light smoke. Creamy medium body, quite a robust porter.

Burnt. I can’t put my finger on it, but something tastes burnt. An arson investigator would do a better, more complete review than I am capable of.

Bottle- Dark , dark brown with a short lived mocha fluff on top. Roasty aromas are the main contender, with some chocolate and coffee. Lots of roasty flavours with some sweet malt, bitter coffee, and dark chocolate. Finish is bitter dark chocolate that lingers. I wish the flavours would stand out more though. Pretty good.

Bottle from Sully Thanks!

Pours rich and black, with a nice head and clinging lace. Aroma is slightly smokey, with a bit of roasted chocolate in the background. Flavor is an instant rush of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. A touch of smoke is tickling my tongue as well. Palate is nice and silky. Very drinkable; I’d love more.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained 21-Feb-06 in trade with Silphium, thanks Brad!) Okay, right up front, this is not my kind of porter. It’s very roasty and ashy with a bitter, burnt aftertaste. Mostly, it’s that aftertaste of something charred beyond recognition that characterizes the beer for me. The initial mild sweetness and chocolate are all but trampled by the time the finish rolls around. It’s still not a bad-tasting porter to me, but the aroma is another story. It smells earthy and deeply roasty, something smells funky and unpleasant. Medium-full bodied and moderately carbonated. Deep ruddy brown body. Smallish, light-tan head fades to a ring. There’s really nothing here that invites me back for another go-round. Not a fan.

Thanks to Sully for this one. Poured dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is folgers coffee and chocolate. Almost has a creaminess to it. Flavor is chocolate and coffee. Some nice roasted notes. The flavors are a bit watery. The aroma is phenomenal and the flavor is rock solid. If they beefed up the flavors this would be very good, but as it stands it is just solid.

Courtesy of Degarth. Pours black with thin beige head. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, aftertaste is sweet chocolate and very creamy, a great standard porter.

Aroma was tart and lactic rather than chocolatey. Some very mild roasted note as well. Black body holds a creamy mocha head that is pinky thin, but mostly lasting. Fore is very roasty with fairly intense coffee and chocolate notes. Finish is bitter hoppy and soda bread-like. Far aftertaste leaves roasted coffee beans and milk chocolate
