Commercial Description:
A wonderfully complex, deep ruby red-black Ale. Dark chocolate, coffee-like flavors are complimented by plenty of hop character with a hint of smokiness in the aftertaste. Robust, yet very drinkable.

(12oz bottle) Big brown head atop a brown-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, roast, coffee, light anise, burnt. Taste is moderately sweet, roast, chococoffee, light smoke. Creamy medium body, quite a robust porter.

Pours a nearly opaque dark brown with a lightly-lacing thin tan head. Aroma has some pleasant sweet earthy caramel and roasty smoke notes with a touch of dark chocolate. Body starts with some bittersweet earthy malt, revealing some metallic cherry flavors that are really out of place. The finish is smokier with some lingering burnt roasted maltiness. Not really sure what is going on with this one, but I don’t think I like it.

This poured a deep mahogany body with a two-fingered, creamy tan head. Nice aroma, dark caramel with a splash of chocolate, some roasted barley, and a sip of coffee. The flavor’s a subdued sweet malt with a hit of smoke and a burnt woodiness that gets a bit harsh near the finish. That harshness means I probably won’t be revisiting this brew any time soon.

Draft sample at new brewpub. Poured dark brown color with a medium brown creamy head that mostly lasted and had good lacing. Moderate roasted coffe and chocolate malty aroma. Medium to full body with a creamy texture. Medium balanced roasted flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Dark black brown color, medium head.Aroma is chocolate malt and hoppy. A medium bodied porter. Deeply roasted malts, chocolaty and somewhat sweet. Some hop spiciness? Nice balance. Good flavor, complex and clean taste. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly malty. A nice lighter bodied porter.

Pours a deep clear brown with a thin head- some lace. Aroma is toast caramel chocolate and light cardboard ox. Some light roaste, milk chocolate, paper and cardboard light sherry ox, with some milky lacto sourness. Dry without any body. Meh.

Draught at Coles, Buffalo, NY. Pours a very deep ruby with a small diminishing creamy beige head. Mild aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Slightly watery flavour of light roasted malt and just hints of coffee and chocolate. Average bodied. Just O.K., somewhat disappointing as it’s pretty dull.
