Commercial Description:
A wonderfully complex, deep ruby red-black Ale. Dark chocolate, coffee-like flavors are complimented by plenty of hop character with a hint of smokiness in the aftertaste. Robust, yet very drinkable.

Cola colored; Head was thin and unimpressive; Nose of fresh roasted coffee beans. Very nice full roasted flavors shining through. Teh nose follows right through to the mouth- I can’t believe that I like this so much better then everyone else- although, it is f-ing ridiculous that the Beer/Month Club would send a porter in JUNE!!!

I do like porters, and this one is no exception, though it’s not exceptional either. much like the lable, it’s a bit generic. however, nursing a few next to a campfire on the shores of lake michigan is not a bad time at all.

Courtesy of Degarth. Pours black with thin beige head. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, aftertaste is sweet chocolate and very creamy, a great standard porter.

Dark, chocolate-brown pour of medium viscosity. Three inch head formed. Creamy yet pocketed, persistent head that produces an attractive and heavy lacing. The nose speaks to chocolate and dark roasted coffee, but dissipates quickly leaving a very light hint of tangy fermentedness. Is that a hint of Brettanomyces? The body is silky and medium-full. The ale lingers nicely on the palate but ends with a very slight hint of . . .Brett? The malt and hops is nicely balanced. This beer is light and refreshing and could be a session ale. The alcohol is not noticeable. The hops and the restrained sour notes suggests it would be a great food beer as well. I would definitely try it again!

Bottle. Pours a dark chocolate with a large (3 finger) head that is tan and a little frothy. Aromas are a somewhat weak mix of chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor is a better than expected (given past experience) mix of the above with a little bit of a leathery/nutty side to it. This is much fuller than I expected given the previous reviews and my experiences with some of MBC’s products. This is one of their stronger offerings as far as I’m concerned.

This is a very good porter, in my opinion. Nose of roasted coffee beans. Taste of chocolate and coffee. Rich and roasty. Maybe a little thin, but not bad.

Brought from Michigan by a friend. A nice looking beer being dark brown with lots of red highlights. A nice thick tan head that has great retention. Aroma is quite appetizing with dark fruit, roasted notes, coffee, smoke, and chocolate. This is a nice porter. A bit on the sweet side but I tend to have a sweet tooth when it comes to beer. Nice complex fruit notes, roasted nuts, coffee, chocolate. Hops are way in the background but adds some very nice texture to the taste. Body is more substantial than expected, especially after reading other ratings. I gotta go against the grain on this one and say it is under rated.
