2007 version aged for year & 1/2 at Coles. On tap at Coles Buffalo NY. Pours deep dark blackness with dark tan/khaki head. Huge roasty aroma . Taste is huge roastiness, notes of chocolate. 12% is a tad boozy but not overbearing. Very well done

Pours pure black, with little capuccino coloured head. Strong alchohol aroma, overlying a smoky malt aroma. Alcohol battles with bitter hops in the flavour. Too much alcohol to be enjoyed, yet true to the style.

Bottle from MBC. This beer pours deep dark brown, pretty much black. Smells is both fruity, chocolate and a little boozy. Taste is huge, and complex, very large coffee and burn malt flavor, with sweetness of dark chocolate, and a finish you make sure you notice the 12%ABV

Pours brown out of the bottle, but appears black in the glass. Unfortunately is a bit lighter in color than I prefer, and it doesn’t appear to be bottle conditioned. Dark red fruit and chocolate in the nose, but it doesn’t have the vibrancy I’d prefer. Flavor has some serious concentration and depth to it. Very flavorful and complex from start to finish. Anise, chocolate, dark roast, fudge, bitter hop. Wow, a beauty. Great recipe. Well executed.

Cask at Brazen Head. Deep black beer. Aroma is quite light. Soft cocoa and a lot of rummy and lightly toasty malts. There is a pretty substantial peppery alcoholic aroma as well. Flavour has a bit of licorice and roast. The flavour is quite thin, hot and slightly boozy. It’s got some light sweetness on the back of the palate but the beer is really hot. A touch of earthy character on the back. As it warms, it gets more plummy with a noticeable roastiness. It’s not bad, but it’s entirely too boozy for me.

decent irs not too think and I can’t see how this is a 12/% beer I woner how much oxidation there was...but still very nice

12oz handbottle bonus from deftim (via hoppymeal). Thanks Tim! Black. Low carbonation. Some toasted coconut in the aroma. Leans dry. Pretty hoppy and bitter, probably amplified by the dryness. Decent, but I prefer sweeter RISs.
