Commercial Description:
The Amber is a American-style amber ale with bold hop character. The darker malts that are used during the brewing process create the amber color of the beer as well as the caramel sweetness of the flavor. The Amber is named after the Abana family who bottled artesian well water at the turn of the century in Lake County. You can also find this beer at Pine Meadows GC, White Deer Run GC, Thunderhawk GC, Bittersweet GC, and the Libertyville Sports Complex, just to name a few.

On tap at the Mickey Finn Brew Pub. Poured a medium amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, citrus and toasted malts. Tastes of caramel and citrus.

On tap at the pub: This ale must vary greatly from batch to batch. I’m one of them who gets very little of an aroma from my beer, just some sweet maltiness. Amber in color with a rocky off-white head, it’s a medium-bodied drink. The flavor is a that of a chewy caramel malt. There’s just a bit of earthy hop bitterness on the finish. Not very interesting, but from reading the other reviews, I see that might change tomorrow.

Can, stating Mickey Finn’s Amber Ale, canned by Stevens Point Brewery. Clear dark amber to copper color. Taller beige head. LIght toasted malt, dough and a sweet floral aromas. Interesting, but not that appealing. LIght caramel, toasted malt, roasted nut and bit of herbal hops in the flavors. Hints of citrus in the finish. Just another amber.

Sample at the brewpub. Nice underlying bitterness to this lightly caramel, smoky/woody medium-bodied amber specimen. It’s fine...just not much to say.

Sampled from roving 64-oz growler during Dark Lord Day ’09. Pours a semi-clear brownish amber colored brew with a thin off-white head that dissolves fast and leaves some spotty lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, some grassy hops and a touch of roasted nuts. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of caramel malt, some grassy hops and a hint of dry chocolate. Finish is slightly watery, semi-dry with a quick disappearing caramel and grassy hop aftertaste.

Poured a clear medium caramel with a short white head. Sweet and inviting lightly-toasted caramel in the nose along with some pine hoppage. Sweet caramel again in the flavor with pine and floral accents.. short, tacky finish with decent balance. Almost medium-bodied with a sweet base and moderate bitterness around. Quite nice.

Clear dark amber with a tight tan head. Mild aroma is caramel malty sweet with a whiff of smoke. Light to medium body. Flavor is also on the mild side with sweet caramel. Finishes with a bitter hop twang. Nice enough session brew.
