Appearance is black, with a thin layer of tan foam after sitting around whilst I finish the lighter beers in the sampler tray (ain’t that always the way with a brewpub’s stout?). Taste brings up dark roasted malt, with more coffee, and cocoa nibs. Roast malt taste is solid, but it’s dry character adds nicely to the package. I liked it, what can I say? Black patent malt malt aroma with a dry, dark chocolate essence. The palate is a bit thin but at least the flavor packs a good amount of sweet chocolate, coffee acidity, and a touch of raspberry tartness. gws57 (1151), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 10, 2007 Had this one on draught at the brewpub in Libertyville, Illinois, under the name "Hackett Stout." Opaque brown pour with a thick tan head, faint nose of cinnamon bread, mild bitter chocolate flavor with some toffee, great looking but bland tasting. joelpg1 (5), Illinois, USA does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 29, 2003 Not a bad rendition of an Irish Stout. It lacks the chocolatey flavor of some of my favorite stouts but has a nice character of its own. Ughsmash (4099), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 9, 2006 On tap at Goose Island Stoutfest. Poured a beautiful black with a solid, long-lasting creamy caramel head. Typical dry stout feel to the aroma (nitroey feel with roasty chocolate and toffee). Dry, chalky chocolate and lighter roast coffee in the flavor with hints of oak. Rather light feel on the palate with a dry finish. Nothing exciting, but an easy-drinkin’, smooth dry stout. ’tis the season. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA

Black hued stout having a long lasting creamy tan head with good lacing. No discernable aroma and carbonation. Thin bodied with creamy texture that starts with dry/slight sweet malt with hints of chocolate, espresso and tobacco. Finishes dry with light bitterness. Though the beer is on the watery side, it is a good mild drinkable stout. AmEricanbrew (2005), Almost, Texas, USA

Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Decent taste is roasty dry black malts with a dusting of cocoa powder. Not too bad. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA
