Commercial Description:
This brew is an Irish-style dry stout with notes of dry roastiness and chocolate. The stout has a dry finish as compared to the sweetness of the oatmeal stout. This beer is always injected with nitrogen gas creating a cascade effect, a thinker head, and creamier mouth feel. If you like Guinness, you'll love our Irish Stout!

Nearly black with a tight tan head. Aroma is blackened malts with a hint of chocolate. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Decent taste is roasty dry black malts with a dusting of cocoa powder. Not too bad.

Draft Sampler, as "Hackett." I get a big coffee smell as soon as the glass gets near me. Appearance is black, with a thin layer of tan foam after sitting around whilst I finish the lighter beers in the sampler tray (ain’t that always the way with a brewpub’s stout?). Taste brings up dark roasted malt, with more coffee, and cocoa nibs. Roast malt taste is solid, but it’s dry character adds nicely to the package. I liked it, what can I say?

Had this one on draught at the brewpub in Libertyville, Illinois, under the name "Hackett Stout." Opaque brown pour with a thick tan head, faint nose of cinnamon bread, mild bitter chocolate flavor with some toffee, great looking but bland tasting.

Nitro. Compared to their Stout this is sad. My notes liked the nitro head-effect back in the day but I have since had the Imperial stout on nitro from this place and mark it down for that. Still for a Guinness clone it is a more than accepteable style of that.

What can one say about a nitro’ed Guinness clone except that it tastes alot like nitro’ed Guinness? Perhaps it’s got a little more coffee in the nose. That’s about it. An average dry stout.

On tap at Goose Island Stoutfest. Poured a beautiful black with a solid, long-lasting creamy caramel head. Typical dry stout feel to the aroma (nitroey feel with roasty chocolate and toffee). Dry, chalky chocolate and lighter roast coffee in the flavor with hints of oak. Rather light feel on the palate with a dry finish. Nothing exciting, but an easy-drinkin’, smooth dry stout. ’tis the season.

On tap at Mickey Finn’s, Libertyville, IL. Black hued stout having a long lasting creamy tan head with good lacing. No discernable aroma and carbonation. Thin bodied with creamy texture that starts with dry/slight sweet malt with hints of chocolate, espresso and tobacco. Finishes dry with light bitterness. Though the beer is on the watery side, it is a good mild drinkable stout.
