YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Apr 17, 2008 Dark brown, almost black, with a small but frothy tan head. Caramel, dried fruit, coffee, and alcohol in the nose. Nice body in the mouth. Flavor was malty and creamy. Excellent. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Dec 31, 2006 FoBAB 06: Opaque and oily, little head. The nose is oxidized with rich tobacco vapours, roasted and toasted malt, some oat and earthy esters as well with a hint of plum fruitiness about.
The taste starts chocolaty and heavy on the roasted character. Midway there appears a note of sour and acidic fruit (mostly apple). Finished with a earthy and woody aftertaste. The feel is chalky and oily, medium bodied. Solid and drinkable brew. SubstanceT (1090), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Nov 21, 2006 #923
On Tap at the Goose Island Wriglyville Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers November 4th, 2006.
Dark Dark brown with a thin rim and tan head. Nose is sweet with some caramel and sugars. Taste is mostly sour and malty with cream and some sugar and sweet tarts. Good. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Jul 19, 2006 (05.27.06) On tap at Mickey Finns, Libertyville, IL. Poured opague black with giant tan head. No discernable carbonation. Roasted malt aroma. Medium-to-full bodied stout that starts with moderate sweetness and roasted malt/expresso coffee flavors. Finished with light bitterness and roasted malt flavor. Smooth, rich, and complex character. Definite alcholic warmth. This is one of my favorite big Mickey Finn beers and I wish that it was offered year round. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA Jun 4, 2006 An imperial on nitro, you have to be kidding. I had this on cask 2 years ago and it was great with a good hop bite, but this nitro mess how can you tell much of anything except it looks like Guiness. Disappointing. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Mar 9, 2006 On tap at Goose Island Stoutfest as "Mickey Finn’s Imperial Stout"... I’m guessing that this is the "Imperial Delusion" from their website. Anyway.. Poured just about black with a tall, creamy beige head.. nice lacing. Nose was of roasty dates and dark fruits.. with alcohol highlights coming through as it warmed. Flavor was fruity upfront, with roasty chocolate, toffee, and spices following. Alcohol only had a warming presence in the flavor. Very smooth and medium-heavy bodied on the palate, utilizing just the right bitter notes. Rather long finish of roasted fruit and dark malts. Very, very good brew!
