redlem (1155), Illinois, USA Dec 28, 2006 This is an old rating I found. Tried all 3 versions, cask is best with the nitro version having best head. For me most porters I have trouble finding chocolate traits, this was true for this beer. More of a roasted malt aroma and taste, some grassy hops. Not overly bitter or dry. Good on cask, below average otherwise. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Mar 7, 2006 Kind of flat & thin, but manages to deliver a rich malt sweetness along with roasted barley and some milk chocolate in the taste. Some coffee, as well, in the nose. Finishes on a mildly bitter, sugar dusted, nutty note. Not bad, and probably better at the pub.

frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Mar 2, 2006 Nitro head holds lasting and creamy over a deep black body with garnet highlights. Coffee roasts and dark chocolate aroma with occasional smokiness. Palate is rather watery, but it doesn’t affect the flavor of smoky chocolate roasts with a gentle, sugar-sweet finish. I decided to have an additional pint to enjoy rather than deconstruct. A really good brew, regardless if you’re a fan of nitrogenation or not.

beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Jan 18, 2006 Updated: Jan 19, 2006(01.16.06) Cask conditioned version available at Mickey Finn’s, Libertyville, IL. Brown black porter with large long-lasting head with good lacing. No discernable carbonation. Faint malt aroma. Medium-bodied with creamy texture that starts with light malt sweetness and chocolate flavor. Finishes dry with light lingering bitterness. Smooth, creamy, like liquid chocolate. Delicious. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Feb 21, 2005 Smells burnt, and of roasted malt. Descent taste but is watery. Can pick out the elements of roasted malt and dark chocolate. Nor as full and robust as I’d like but a welcomed change to the other soft beers I sampled at Mickey Finn’s that same day.
