Commercial Description:
This tawny-dark Belgian-style ale was made famous by the Trappist monks that still brew it today. This beer is blessed with a spicy aroma and a mellow malt flavor. I almost failed my Drug Use in American Society class in college because of this beer, and it was worth it(Thanks Flietz)! Served in a 16oz snifter.

I thought I detected some Saaz in the aroma and taste. It was a mildly spicy dark amber colored beer. Fairly sweet taste, not a bad dubbel.

Strong, Belgian yeasts drift up from a light-hazed vermillion brew with a thin, creamy, tan head that is soon just a skin. Great smoked character in the nose with defined banana and a whomp of esters. Smooth and full-bodied with a lingering banana flavor but without an astringent recourse from the alcohol which simply dries. Well-made.

(02.12.06) On tap at Mickey Finns brewpub, Libertyville, IL. 7.6% ABV. Clear amber hued Belgium-style ale having a small white head. No discernable carbonation. Fruity sweet malt aroma. Medium-to-full bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and spicy/fruity flavors. Finishes with malty and light bitterness fade. Very malty, smooth and flavorful. A tasty offering from brewmaster Greg Browne.
