Terminus (1955), Illinois, USA May 11, 2007 tap at the repeal prohibition festival at Schalfly’s. pours yellow with a small soapy white head around the rim of the glass. nose is grassy grains and quite a bit of diacytl. grainy, grassy flavors with the lingering diacytl. not good in the slightest. palte is decent, but doesnt save this beer from the big D. the kolsch was fantastic, this should have followed suit.
hopdog (4648), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 25, 2008 On tap at the Mickey Finn Brew pub. Listed as the "Gausthaus Pilsner". Poured a medium and clear yellow color with a small sized white head. Aromas of citrus with some grassiness. Tastes of grass, citrus, and grains. Ughsmash (3079), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Apr 26, 2007 Poured a clear bright golden with a short white head and some nice lacing as the brew descended. The aroma was led by tart lemon notes with sweet pils malts behind.. the lemon dominates and slightly detracts from the enjoyment. Flavor was of lemon and dry floral bitterness with somewhat repressed sweet bready malts beneath.. quite tasty! Lighter-bodied, dry, and refreshing.. excellent balance! Very well-done pilsner. vyvvy (1756), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Apr 12, 2007 Sampled at Schlafly’s Repeal of Prohibition Fest along with Beerdrenched. Pours yellow with a whitish head. The aroma is grainy and grass with unfortunately some diacetyl. Medium / light body with some prickly carbonation. The flavor starts okay with some grainy pale malt, but the finish has the diacetyl. A fair pils. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Apr 10, 2007
Sampled at the Schlafly "Repeal Of Prohibition" beer festival, for me, this was the best pilsener offered on Saturday, grainy, sugary pilsener malts, good use of Saaz hops, spicy and grassy to the nose, then in the taste, grassy with a nice spicy finish the cleansed the palate, just very tasty. My only complaint is that I wish the pilsener malts were a little fuller, felt a bit thin, but otherwise, very enjoyable.
