Flavour of citrus hops and caramel malt -- very nice, but It’s not as hoppy as they warn for this hophead! Delicious but not excellent, I would certainly get it again. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 29, 2005 Clear golden-copper body with a small sudsy white head. Aroma of toasted malt, moderate diacetyl, cinnamon, citrus, and dry leaves. English-style, toasted buttery malt flavor with some moderate earthy hops. A bit too buttery for my tastes. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 25, 2005 Golden ale with a thick off white head. Light honey malt but not much in floral hops in aroma. Nice cookie dough malt with restrained bitterness and good citrus notes, lingering in finish. Some nice butterscotch and earthy nuttyness gives this ESB some good character. A lighter ESB fine for summer. rajendra82 (704), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 26, 2005 Unleashed out of the 12 oz. brown bottle, the Beast came out with cleat pale orange body with a foamy two finger head that lasted a short while before leaving wispy lace spread out all around the rim. Very little latent carbonation lingered around. The aroma was well balanced between fruity and bready malt and floral hops. The taste was delicate and subtle, with some toasted biscuit like malts and earthy bittering hops. There was a touch of buttery flavor indicative of diacetyl, but it was well in check and felt quite appropriate here. The mouthfeel was light and smooth with the fine light carbonation. Aftertaste was slightly sour followed by a long drawn out bitter fade. A very drinkable beer that thankfully left out or masked a lot of the funky flavors associated with the Ringwood yeast. I got it in a growler from the brewery, I’ll go back again for this one! SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2004 Coppery colored body supports a nice firm tight head of white foam that gives off a good spruce aroma.
This has more of a dry palate than a bitter one. The body compliments the flavors well, not too sweet, not too bitter and light yet not watery. Different and drinkable.
