Commercial Description:
This ESB (Extra Special Bitter) displays the subtle copery hue of "Old Gold." Its mighty depth of flavor will awaken taste buds and complements "pub" fare such as lamb and game. It is a natural accompaniment with spicy foods. Bronze medal winner at the 1998 World Beer Championships.

Appearance: clear, honeyed auburn hue, solid, creamy 1/2" head Aroma: sweet and well-rounded, showing some hops, but softly, seems to fit the classic ESB mode rather nicely. Taste: very smooth entrance on the palate, sweet and tasty. Body and texture on the light side, finish is brief. Not a limpid ale, but too lively, however, I have to keep remembering that that’s just right for the style, which isn’t among my favorites. Flavor is well appreciated, some some fruitiness, citrus, peach, certainly more flavorful than your average bitter.

Pours a two-fingered cream head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Cloudy, amber color. Nose is a spicy malt. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Starts with a mix of sweetness and hops very similar to Mordue Radgie Gadgie (a pale), hops start coming through at finish. $1.85 for a 12oz bottle from Hoosick Street Discount Bev. Troy, NY.

somehow going off in different directions, drawn and quartered. Somewhat watery mouthfeel. Not best of the line, but not bad. Carbonation instead of high hops

Bottle, from Halftime. Good nose, orangy/lemony, apple. Hazy pale orange color, small to no head. Bitter flavors, Lemon mainly, some grass, liitle toffee/caramel. Little soapy too. Thinner body, little creaminess, lemony bitter finish. Tasty brew, another good beer from Middle Ages.

True medium amber topped by a fairly thick, sandy head with a yellowish cast. Hops top the aroma and are very fresh. Grassy and lemony with the lemons verging on cleaning fluids, but not yet offensive. The flavor is loads of caramel and a bit of apple (especially the peels). This is an excellent bitter, but I think the carbonation needs to be toned down a bit.

This is tasty, and could quite possibly be the perfect bitter. This has a great hop profile, bitter and spicy this one takes a bite out of your tongue. Nicely high in acidity almost to the point of annoyance, but in a good way. Extremely nice to drink.
