Generous portions of roasted barley, black and chocolate malts which leave "coffee" overtones lingering on the palate. The Nitro Keg version is particularly soft and creamy.

On tap at the Chapter House in Ithaca. Black licorice in the aroma, with nicely roasted malts. Decently black pour with a good creamy head. I detect the ringwood in the flavor, but it is nicely done, and compliments the black malts. Good hop presence. I would consider this a dry stout if I had to categorize it, but it was very enjoyable. I tried to drag my wife back later, but we had dessert instead.

(Tap) Almost black, nice head. Nose of roasted malts and chocolate. Huge, creamy, rich body with TONS of roastiness, chocolate and coffee flavors. Nice hoppy finish. Awesome stout. A must try.

The appearance? Black Hole darkness where not even a sliver of light escapes. Finger of chcolate milk-brown head. Looks big and heavy...and pitch black. The aroma is a roasted/burnt malt flavor with light coffee notes. Understated but quite rich. Smells good, but not all that powerful. The initial taste is a burst of strong coffee with burnt malt. The roasted stout flavor dominates. A sweeter second wave of dark chocolate and mild yeast. Very strong combination of flavors. The bready ringwood yeast comes out as it warms, as do all the other flavors. Really strong. Feels thick as hell but also smooth and oily. Leaves a thick coating. Somehow thickens as it warms. It’s very balanced even though it’s really thick and strong. Sweet enough for ONE repeat. Feels/tastes like it has a lot of alcohol.

Cask at the Pizza Plant. Very dark, medium brown head, creamy and dense. Roasty, some dryness , sweet, a little vinous. A touch thin but very creamy and very drinkable. Quite nice, glad I found it.

(Rating #2027)
