| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 20, 2008 Bottle: Pours a dark brown/black color with a brown head. Aromas of chocolatey and roasty goodness. Hints of molasses. Flavor is mocha based with a light roasty malt feel into some smoky notes. Seems to be a bit of dark fruit in there too. Different from the recent impys I’ve sampled and rewarding in that aspect. Thanks Jordan. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 19, 2008 Bottle: Dark black color, nice tannish brown head and some lacing. Nose of sweet plum, light soy and milk chocolate, nearly no dark sharp roast like with most imperial stouts. Imperial Porter? No, the taste confirms a bit of astringency present. A creamy mocha and raspberry presence in the flavor. Balanced finish with a chewy body. Doughy mouthfeel with a nice coffee ground note that runs through the tail with the sweetness. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 17, 2008 busy and overwhelming brew that is substantial in body as well as flavors. prune and date like with an appropriate but not overbearing alcohol profile. chocolate fades in and out of the taste pattern making this beer dark fruity and nicely cocoa like. yes a nice oatmeal like consistancy refined to keep it refreshing. i find the hop profile to be quite restrained and the malty type fruit and sugar to be more than appropriate and appreciated for the style. honestly nothing i would not have expected from a HIGH QUALITY brewer. one point extra for a wonderful chocolate head that is absolutely full of flavor. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2008 bottle....pours nearly black with a frothy tan head that slowly dissipates.....nose comprised mostly up of chocolate, booze, and some roast....more smokiness comes into play in the flavor along with the aforementioned aromatic qualities. the finish has a bitter roasted feel to it (although it might be the hops)and the mouthfeel is quite supple and creamy.....a pleasant surprise and enjoyable overall. rustbucket0873 (146), Krikville, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 29, 2008 Pours a thick blank with a medium dark head.. Alcohol aroma. Flavor is strong, I like it. Doesn’t go down as heavy as it looks, a little more drinkable than some other imperials. Pleasantly surprised by this one. illidurit (896), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 26, 2008 Pours an inky black. The chocolate milk-colored head takes a long time to cascade upwards through the viscous liquid, resulting in a nice 3 fingers of foam. Huge sheets of lacing and good retention.
Very roasty nose. Charcoal, black coffee, dark chocolate.
Roasty ashy malt highlights wander around a core of bittersweet chocolate and espresso. There may be some bitter hoppiness here but it’s hard to differentiate from the roasted malt.
Standard stout mouthfeel, dense and nicely carbonated. The ashy note in the flavor kind of detracts from the drinkability here however. railcat1 (582), Orlando, Florida, USA
