The flavors in the first sip are chocolate, dark fruits, and a little coffee. This is the first middle ages beer that I have had and it is on par with other impy stouts. The chocolate and coffee take over in the warm last few gulps. Nice Viper666 (622), Greenfield Park, Quebec, Canada

Dry, hoppy finish. peter (385), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2007 A very dark pour with a large dark brown head and lacing. An aroma that reeks of coffee with a hint of chocolate. A flavor that leans harder to the choco than the coffee side. A pretty hard bitter that really adds to the brew. The abv comes through in the flavor as the beer warms but I didn’t pick it up in the nose. Good carbonation. All round one very fine IS. drewbeerme (2291), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 25, 2007 22oz. thanks eljefe for this sweet extra. pours black with tan head. nose is really roasty, charred, some hop juice, baker’s chocolate, and some coffee. flavor is overly roasty, subtle/weak chocolate, dark fruits, and stale coffee. body is thin. alcohol is well hidden. this really needs big piney hops to go along with the high roastiness. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 23, 2007 22 oz bomber shared by drewbeerme. Pours a thick black a few brown yeast particles floating around with a tan brown head. Nose is all roast a few hints of stale grains and carmel. Flavor is similar. All roast, no chocolate, no bitterness, a little stale. As the tempature warms on it some grapefruit notes come out in the nose, but overall kinda average for an impy stout.
