Black pour, tan two-finger head. First taste impression was that of a dark chocolate cabernet, if such a thing could exist. Remarkably hoppy, with bitterness teetering perilously close to vinegary sourness. Chocolate notes outlast the hops on the palate. Muted aroma. A bit boozy. Not quite on par with the outstanding Great Divide "Yeti" Imperial Stout I had this past weekend but, nevertheless, I’m becoming more impressed with this backyard brewery with every sample of its wares. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 14, 2007 To slay the dragon, all you would have to do is feed it some of this stout. Weighing in at 9.5% abv, it’s an ass-kicker. It pours a deep coffee color with an average, light-brown head. Good lacing over a fully diminishing head. Murky body. Aroma is of Twizzlers (the red ones), toasted malts, and alcohol. Initial taste is moderately sweet with coffee notes, shifting to a light bitter finish with some bite and an average duration. Light to medium on the mouth, it is watery with lively carbonation. Taste does not mask the alcohol. If you don’t like stouts, you would not enjoy this beer.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 12, 2007 Dark black pour with a dark brown head. Slight oakiness on the nose with hints of burnt chocolate, smoke, and coffee. The flavor echoes the nose, with a nice carbonation and smokey sweetness on the finish. A solid beer, but not a stellar one.
