I haven’t seen a pour like this since I sampled the DL. But this one doesn’t have too much balance and is centered around aggressive bitter tones with a coffee-like flavor. I like this one but its a bit over the top. MikeMac (185), Wyandotte, Michigan, USA

There was just a little tan spot in the middle of my glass. On first smell I caught some chocolate, coffee, and nuttiness. This particular brew is more on the coffee end of the stout spectrum. ou could definitely sense the roastiness of the malts, in fact it was unmistakeable. The mouthfeel was somewhat light and didn’t have that oily texture I like. The finish was an interesting combination of coffee and hop bitterness, which lasted quite a bit. It did a nice job hiding its strength though. I’m not a coffee drinker, so this may affect my review somewhat. nhorween (640), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 15, 2006 Updated: Dec 27, 2006Bottle. Dark, opaque, espresso brown with a frothy tan head. Nice aroma, but strange... cocoa, bitter almond, coffee, but it has a musty, nutty aroma also, like pistachios and cork. Not bad, just different and strange. Really bitter flavor, cocoa powder, coffee, hops, dry finish. Again, hugely musty and with a cork like flavor. I’m not sure this beer didn’t get too hot. Thin on the palate, good carbonation. This is a different take on an imperial stout. There are much better imperial stouts out there, this one is almost too roasty, but this is worth trying. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and dark fruits. Flavor, rich coffee and chocolate, dry bitter finish, some roastiness as well. A little on the thin side I thought, and the alcohol is present. jcr (1158), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 14, 2006 Sweet and dry and thoroughly enjoyable. Pitch black pour with frothy dark tan head that quickly retreats. Delightful aroma of chocolate, molasses, plum, roasted and burnt malts. The flavors hint at chocolate, licorice and coffee with caramel and sweet dried fruit in the backbone. Full bodied with average carbonation. Bitter and very dry finish. Rich texture though somewhat gritty. A solid imperial stout all around. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA
