Fruity chocolate aroma. Maybe some roasty blueberries.
Flavor is odd, but good. Dry burnt wood finish. Fruity brown sugar all roasted. Pretty good beer. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2006 Courtesy of Boboski. Thanks, Jason. Very intense dark chocolate, booze laden dark fruit and sweet coffee aromas. The body is a deep black and holds a slowly diminishing thumb thick mocha head that is lumpy as oatmeal across the top. Fore is bitter burnt/roast malt along with dark chocolate and black coffee. Some black licorice appears, but it is a low sweetness kind of licorice. Very bitter brew is almost totally burnt tasting. If heavily hopped for bitterness it certainly fades to the background while the burnt bitterness is up front and intense. The finish is just ever so slightly smokey, but not enough to turn off this rauchbier hater. The flavor range is narrow, but the mouthfeel and concentration are very nice. Solid Imperial stout. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2006 Bottle shared by Jason. Chocolate rum, mousse, and some berry-tart hopping in the aroma. The flavor kicks out a sweet chocolate roast base with a lemon/berry tartness on top. Bitter hoppy/acidic finish. A well-balanced imperial stout. Velvety mouthfeel that’s detracted by the acidic finish. Suttree (2742), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Really nice creamy, milky chocolatey aroma, with some pronounced coffee notes. Smooth and tasty - coffee and dark chcolate, well balanced and satisfying. Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 8, 2006 Pure black body with a nice tanish brown head. Hops and sweetness dominate the aroma, some nice maltiness as well, nicely balanced. Great coffee and roasted ham taste, some light hops.... though not that evident. Dry-smokey ending, somewhat hoppy as well. cbkschubert (2015), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

Light stringy lacing. Aroma is roasted coffee and chocolate. This is one of the most bitter IS’s I’ve had. Flavor is much of the same (dark malts). The biterness and roasted malt seems to linger on the tongue. Alcohol is noticable. Full bodied with a somewhat dry finish. A good beer. Thanks Harry. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA

Pours a midnight black with a massive and very dense tan head. Nice nose with notes of vanilla, chocolate, and figs. Wow what a nice explosion of different flavors. Lots of roasty chocolate, some espresso and licorice, some vanilla, and more roasted chocolate...very roasted, perhaps even burnt. Full bodied, chewy mouthfeel, even got a piece of a barley husk in my mouth, lol...Dry chalky finish, the alcohol is there but stays subdued under the roastiness and the hops. And what i like about the hops is that they are not grapefruity hops. I love those in IPAs but not in Stouts. Middle Ages has instead used the English variety, which works much better in an imp Stout. Bravo!! This is a wonderful Imp Stout, one of the best i have had thus far. rmalloy (195), los angeles, California, USA
