Stout, liquorice, heavily roasted grains, meaty and fusels. Scorched grain, mother-of-corn and faraway Bourbon casks. Nearly full-bodied, scorched wood or grain impinging on the MF. Good beer, but there’s a discrepancy between its imag in aroma, flavour and mouthfeel, that doesn’t quite agree with me. Big thanks, CK! danielcurtis81 (908), San Diego, California, USA

Pours a nice coffee brown with a huge frothy light brown head. Nose is sweet candy, and loads of dark dried fruits. Flavors of rich chocolate, fresh black iced coffee, some tea flavors, dark dried fruit, pretty good malt, and a hint of sour milk. Mouth is dry and a little chalky. Alcohol hides that flavors at times. Overall a real nice RIS. smcolw (366), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 5, 2009 Black in color (no light passes through). Solid four-finger beige head with lots of lace.
Strong chocolate and black patent malt aromas. Somewhat like chocolate milk. Some bitterness to the smell, but it comes from the burnt grains. Inviting and interesting.
Very dark (read: burnt malt) tasting. The high alcohol essence is balanced by this bitter flavor. Full bodied with an above average carbonation. The hop is subdued and not really necessary to provide balance since the beer is so dry and naturally bitter. The aftertaste is nearly all black patent malt.
Do you like burnt toast or blackened food? A yes answer will likely mean you’ll love this brew. While I enjoy its unique flavors, I find them to be a bit too much. This does not have the smoothness of most Imperial Stouts (or Dry Stouts). Think black coffee or better yet, espresso, and you’ll get the general feel for this brew. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

pours opaque and a brown shade of black with an orange tinted medium brown head. some moderate spots of lacing are left on the glass.
aromas of treacle, tar, tobacco, roasty grain, chocolate, orange zest?(wtf?) and brown sugar with some faint funky spicy notes that i usually attribute to bourbon... i guess it is the ’finest english hops’?
the palate is very roasty bitter forward which usually = yum... but in this case it lacks a bit of character and balance. flavors of chocolate, nutty coffee, caramel, molasses, grass and some faint non resinous pine with a dry woody finish. the aftertaste is largely of coffee.
medium bodied. small soft bubbles give it a creamy mouth feel. it is nicely drinkable as it is not syrupy or alcoholic but it gets really boring during the second half of the bottle as it never develops or changes... 7/3/7/4/14/3.5
