Aroma of strong malty sweetness with subtle alcohol notes is clearly evident. Taste has a real creamy feel to it with some malt but everything seems to be covered by strong bitter hops. Body is full and even though taste has a warming feel to it you cannot detect the alcohol. Good barleywine overall but I guess I prefer them without too many hops and more malt presence or again maybe I should have aged the bottle a bit more. jasonp (1514), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 28, 2005 Updated: Sep 10, 2005Nice clear ruby red with a medium off-white head. Aroma of piney, citrusy hops and dark fruits. Whoa, very hoppy. Flavor has notes of pine, resin, grapefruit, toasted malt, caramel, dark fruits and ends with a touch of pepper. Very nicely balanced; not too sweet and has plenty of hop bitterness which lingers on the palate. Medium body, smooth texture and lively carbonation. Not as thick and syrupy as other barleywines but not light either. Not much lacing or head retention. Overall, really nice stuff. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 9, 2005 Botte, poured cloudy and chestnut, with an off white head. Aroma had notes of caramel and roasted things, also a background of yeast. Medium body and a bit light for a Barley, but at 9%, very drinkable. Sregnar35 (732), Rotterdam, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 23, 2005 Another good barley wine. It’s no harvest ale, but it’s got what you want in a barley wine, a good bite and good body. Ungstrup (15436), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 13, 2005 A hazy red beer with a nice dense off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel as well as some hops - the alcohol is not present. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and hops - again - the alcohol can’t be tasted, but it burs the mouth slightly. The end is dry, bitter, and a little woody - a nice Barley Wine. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 12, 2005 Unclear dark amber colored, foamy tan head. Nice and full sweet and candied aroma of yeast, clementine and some hop. Sharp yeast and fruit flavor, rather dry and rancid and a foamy mouthful. Drinkable, but too rancid to be great. No way near the top American barley wines! Mads Langtved (2246), Copenhagen K, Denmark
