Commercial Description:
An epic barleywine, made in the tradition of British Farmhouse Brewing. Lavished with a velvety blend of six different malts this is a warming beer with a lush mouthfeel. The complexities your discriminating palate will detect are ever changing as this barleywine matures. When young, an assertive hop character predominates and with age the beauty of the big malt balance unfolds.

This beer was sampled at the San Diego Real Ale Festival courtesy of Dr. Bill’s kindness. This beer poured a cloudy amber/red color with a thick foamy tanned head that once again refused to subside throughout the tasting of this beer. The nose had heavy vinous piney qualities with hints of caramel malts, banana, cloves and raisins as well. Very entrancing and pleasant aroma. The taste had this perfect blend of roasted cloves mixed in with hops and caramel malts. There’s a hint of orange as well just detected in the aroma and the finish. Very well balanced beer, little alcohol presence if any. Very dry sweet finish, aging has done this beer wonders. I’d love to grab a bottle for cellaring!

Pours clear orange yellow with a nice white head. Piney spicy hop aroma. Same can be said for the flavor, with a nice sticky malt flavor. This is a good Amerihop barleywine.

Thin head and low carbonation. Great lacing though. Strong hops aroma. Floral, grassy with a hint of alcohol and malt. Color is a murky dark amber. Flavor is not as thick as I expected but still quite good. Nice alcohol warming. Lots of malts to offset the high hops content. Finish is bitter and a little sweet and creamy. A good barleywine that would be good for someone looking for a slightly more mellow barleywine.

Aroma of hops, sugar, maybe fruits, and alcohol. Flavors of hops, alcohol and sweet fruits. MartinT wrote the word that describes best my appreciation of this beer : uninspiring. I really love barleywines but this one doesn’t do it for me.

Slightly hazy copper body with a thick, off-white head. Big, hoppy aroma that starts with strong citrus, pine and tea leaf. A little time with this under the nose yields subtle caramel, chocolate and nut. The body is a little on the thin side, though otherwise pleasing. Nice flavors with a nice blend of hops and malt. Caramel, toffee, chocolate, pine, orange, grapefruit, cracked pepper, tea and light berry. The interplay of sweet malt and bitter hops is a lot of fun for the tongue. One of the better American-style hoppy Barley Wines I've had in a while. Tasty, but nothing really overpowers.

It pours an almost clear copper with a medium off-white head, sticking to the glass. Aroma of rich cream, dry malt, caramel and maple a an unappropriate yeasty character that shows in the form of dust. Taste is a big surprise, very fruity (berries, grapes), very alcoholic with a dry cobwebs finish. Medium bodied with high carbonation. This is no JW Lees..

Cheese (of the stinky feet kind) growing through very fruity bushes…Pomegranate, peaches, berries and oranges compel a muddy yeast to fake dustiness…The chocolate felt is not genuine as this lacks malt and body to really reach out to me…A complex, promising barley wine which is still uninspiring to me…
