Aroma was initially attractive with a hint of some bread/toast. The flavor was caramel and toffee but also that nice toasty character. A well done amber. yesyouam (602), Fairport, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 11, 2007 This ale is hazy amber with a lasting yellow-tan head. There is a heavy caramel, toffee, and burnt malt aroma that carries a light floral hop scent. There is a light basement whiff from the yeast. The palate is medium-full, oil and soft. It’s slightly chalky, moderately bitter and has a very homemade taste. Not bad! Ambrose (141), East Aurora, New York, USA

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Feb 14, 2007 bottle from LeopoldStoch. Mahogany with ring of bubbles. Aroma-standard amber, caramel, faint spicy hops and not much else. Flavor extremely soapy and harsh, burnt grain. Surprised this even averages a 3.2. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA

Mmmm, nice smooth maltiness balanced with a bit of spicy hops. I really like that carmelly taste. Slight honey aftertaste. Finishes dry.

| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 4/20 | Jan 16, 2007 Well, Pannepot last night, a dandy one, and doo doo in my glass tonite. Win some, lose some. In any event, an amber tinged clear copperish color with a pretty nice fluffy head, great retention, solid lacing, so far so good for a plain old amber ale (ie. within style, nice appearance). Aroma wasn’t disgusting, just really hard to pick up, some smokey bitter tea bags, light caramel, not much else. The flavor was utterly unimpressive, actually quite taxing, highly astringent, acidic, bitter nuts, week old bitter coffee grinds, smokiness (in a bad way), and an almost sewer-like touch underneath. I was hoping for only bitter tea bags after smelling this thing, but it tasted worse than it smelled. Watery acidic mouthfeel, I don’t know how to be more polite about this one. A craft brewer like MA’s should be shut down, as I’ve yet to drink something decent from them. I’d take Bud over this any day - lacks flavor, but that’s better than disgusting. rzaxxx (6), Rhode Island, USA does not count | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 6, 2007 Looks better than it tastes. Thin on the palate, not much nose. Not malty enough to justify the lack of hops. I’m not good enough to taste the pecans and butterscotch, but I am usually put off by straw and this beer didn’t have it. So I’d drink it again, but wouldn’t buy it. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA

Pours out a brown color with a nice white head for a second. Smell is malty and full of caramel and sweetness. Not much hop flavor in the nose. Taste is where the hop flavor comes through, and it will certainly give you a little punch, though not like an IPA. Pretty good stuff, easy to drink.
