Cletus (4999), Connecticut, USA Oct 26, 2009 Pours copper with a white head. Smells resiny and fruity with some citrussy hints. Tastes grassy and citrussy with a spicy finish. MrBeerFanatic (344), jamestown, New York, USA Oct 16, 2009 Pours a medium dark amber with a sticky foamy off white head. Aromas of caramel, apricot, and some citrus hops. Aroma is more on the malty side. Flavor isn’t much like the aroma with some floral and citrus hops, and a touch of apricot. Slightly dry and very bitter. Lacks depth of the flavors that are there. You can taste the hops, but they don’t stand up the very bitter finish like they should leaving just an overpowering bitterness. pete4999 (120), Buffalo, New York, USA Sep 23, 2009 Bottle....Average IPA. Amberish-orange pour, cream white head that lasts. Hoppy on the nose, slightly citrusy...grapefruits and the like. Pretty sweet, not as hoppy as I would have liked. BrockLanders (747), Panama City, Florida, USA Aug 18, 2009 Bottle from a gas-stop food store in Oneida NY. Hazy amber pour.....small whitish head. Light hop nose....maybe some citrus, a hint of malt. Flavor light in spice, hop, and malt.......all are somewhat off in character. Reminds me of a middling homebrew....meh. I’m a bit disappointed. Bitterness in the end is all that reminds me of an IPA. Feel free to skip this one. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 18, 2009 [2354-20090731] Tap. Not much aroma, a bit of grassy grains. Slightly hazy, medium brown body with a quick creamy off-white head. Bitter citrus rind flavour has some grass hints. Medium body. Quite strongly bitter, in that over-the-top realm.
(@ Middle Ages; Syracuse, NY) yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Aug 16, 2009 Middle Ages ImPaled Ale is a slightly cloudy light amber ale with a dense, lumpy, splotchy off-white head that has excellent retention and lacing. It has a juicy, spicy, slightly sweet aroma. It almost smells like honey. It’s medium bodied and maybe a touch watery, but it’s smooth and the finish is dry. The flavor is well balanced between sweet and dry. It’s grainy and bready, fruity and citrusy, with a sweet, spicy aftertaste. It’s easy drinking. mansquito (818), Boston/Philadelphia, USA Aug 6, 2009 Clear copper with a thick and foamy one inch head. Fruity toffee and hoppy aromas. Not over hopped, but comes with a nice bitter finish. Sweet notes all throughout the beer. Overall well-balanced, with a nice mouthfeel. freekyp (900), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA Jul 28, 2009 Updated: Aug 9, 2009Bottle version. Big toffee aroma with a bit of fruitiness also shows a bit of peatiness. Missing any floral notes. Pours a deep copper with a thick sticky beige head. Medium bodied with a tight quick carbonation. Long aggressive bitter finish that comes across as somewhat aggressive. Malt character is there coming across in the middle of the swallow with a light sweetness but it is eventually overwhelmed with the intrusive bittering hop finish. Aroma hops take a back seat and the beer does not really showcase its Cascade heritage.
