The aroma is peat smoke, caramel, a bit of toast, and a very faint floral note. The flavor is nice and malty with quite a dose of caramel, and a hint of burnt toast. The finish is ashy smoke and kind of a woody bitterness, and is increasingly dry as I drink more. Not bad. NachlamSie (1657), Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 30, 2006 bottle split with Tronraner. Pours a lively dark ruby red with a small, though persistant tan head. Aroma is full of sweet caramel and molasses with some peat, smoke, and crackers. Though the sweet caramel is very noticeable in the mouth, it never cloys and with the slightly bitter, dry smokiness in the finish, balance is well maintained. There’s a hint of vanilla and cola which suggests bourbon notes. lukin013 (211), Columbia, Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 29, 2006 Great sweet aroma made up of molasses, caramel and malt. Almost opaque brown color with a small tan head that dissipated quickly. Medium body with a dry, malty flavor. Headbanger (1601), Aurora, Illinois, USA

Nice dark amber color wi th a head that dissipates fairly quickly. A malty flavor with a fairly high alcohol flavor. Not your typical scotch ale but overall a pretty decent tasting beer. redbarista (40), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2006 Good, dark, strong beer; full flavor with a sweet finish. After buying this beer in Syracuse, i wish they’d put it in 12 oz. bottles. I’d buy it at that. The high alcohol content may cloud perception of the beer as they only market it in 22 oz. bottles. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 6, 2006 I’ve had enough samples at the brewery to finally rate it. The 4 ounce plastic cups do not allow for much of a head or a good visual evaluation. I did find it full flavored, slightly sweet malt finish and a bit darker more hoppy than a typical "Scotch." These characteristics combined with a higher ABV made it a pleasant experience apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 18, 2006 Dry, roasty aroma - looks great, but its really not that robust in flavor. Slight hints of caramel malts, some cocoa and some herbal notes too. Somewhat thin-bodied, and not very well-balanced. Smooth and creamy, and nice mouthfeel.
