The body of the "Duke" is best described as starved. The body of this porter needs to be improved. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 19, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with jah noth, thanks Dan!) Malty, roasty, ashy, mildly sweet, and alcoholic nose really sets a nice tone. Very malty, moderately bitter and roasty, fairly chocolaty, dry initially, becoming moderately sweet toward the finish. The beer needs to warm to near room temperature to really appreciate the rich, powerful blackstrap molasses flavor that builds to crescendo in the long-lasting finish. Medium to full bodied, ample mouthfeel, perfectly carbonated. Deep, dark brown color shows only a bit of translucence. Tan head is kind of lazy, barely able to muster enough energy to form a complete later, but it can’t maintain tha tlayer, quickly fading away to a rim with a few wisps of head in the middle. Except for the head, this is an excellent beer in all other respects, and my kind of brew. drpimento (824), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 8, 2005 I really enjoyed this hybrid beer that’s according to the label a scotch/porter. Pours with a fine head & some lace covering half of the inside of the glass. Nose was sweet with some raisiny, date, roasty, chocolatey and a bit burnt. Flavor is the same and mouth filling body. A bit warming with a peppery sharpness. Dark garnet color. Had it at Bodega last night. Dogbrick (2855), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 20, 2005 Acquired via trade. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium thin off-white head that has fair retention. Thin and sticky lacing. Strong roasted malt aroma, with touches of caramel and fruit. Pretty full-bodied, and I like the style that blends characteristics of a Scotch Ale and Porter, although to be honest if I didn’t read the label I would have guessed just Scotch Ale. Nice roasty flavor with malt, dark fruit, caramel and a hint of chocolate. The finish is a little smokey and has a nice bitterness. Enjoyable brew. mustang3 (254), Whitby, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 16, 2005 Another solid beer from Middle Ages. Great dark brown colour with very little head. The nose is mostly roasted malt, but the flavour has great balance between roasted and sweet caramel malts. Finishes with a little kick of bitterness. Wish I could get more.
