| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 11, 2007 Notes: Burgundy with dark red hues. Quickly diminishing off-white head. Roasted malt, nuts, and some more of that trademark Middle Ages buttery smell. More roasty malt, almost coffee and nutmeg in the first sip. A little sweet but has a nice and pleasant taste. Aftertaste lingers. Slick on the throat with a touch of carbonation and dryness. Definitely more porter than a scotch ale. A little more watery than I expected, but otherwise really good! yesyouam (611), Fairport, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2007 Duke of Winship is a very dark, tawny red porter with an orangish light brown head that fizzles and fades to a splotchy film. It leaves good lacing. The aroma is dry and chocolaty, has a deep molasses backbone and has a slight dusty attic whiff. It’s not entirely focused. It is medium-full bodied; fizzy with big bubbles. It leaves the tongue a little sand blasted. Quite bitter throughout, the roasted chocolate flavor is a little detached from the gin-like element. It has a lot of flavor and it’s played down nicely. This is a well-done robust porter. Maria (6326), Thisted, Denmark

The aroma has notes of roasted malt and licorice. The flavour is sweetish with notes of roasted malt, licorice, hints of coffee and light citrussy bitterness. The body is rather thin, but the finish is surprisingly long. Thank you Coldbrewky for this one. 2431

The last few Middle ages beers I’ve had had been diacetyl bombs, this had none of those qualities that the past few have had. Pours a dark reddish body with nice head. Aroma is of sweet roasted malt, light hops and some smoke. Flavor is bitter sweet malt, light chocolate, and smoke. Good beer. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA

Smooth body with a somewhat dry finish. Not too bad. Beerdedone (1888), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA
