Brewbie (117), New York, USA Jul 7, 2008 12oz bottle. I like porters and I like scotch ale, so I figured this had to be a winner. dark ruby color with a huge foam head. light fruit and coffee aroma. sweet malt and fruit with a very dry finish. tasty Haslinger (450), Syracuse, New York, USA Jun 9, 2008 bottle from the Middle Ages mixpack, interesting name for a Scotch ale which is what the bottle said but apparently it’s a porter. Anyway the taste is a sweet, rich malt, some chocolate. Some fruit in the finish. very good would buy again dmradus (223), Syracuse, New York, USA Jun 1, 2008 Growler fresh from the brewery. Brown, red in direct light with a tan and quickly fading head. Soft roasted malts and nuts in the nose, as well as a nicely rounded fruity sweetness. Coffee and plums. Taste is slightly lactic sourness up front, fading to a pleasing grassy note. Then the malts take over: coffee and burnt chocolate malts, some toasted nuts as well. Lots of roast and, again, a simple and slight sweet dark fruit element. Finish is slight, with burnt malt bitterness predominant but no off-putting graininess. Palate is nicely effervescent at the top and fades to a pleasing creaminess as it moves in the mouth - could be slightly thicker overall. Very nice balance between sweet and roasted. RCL (965), Boston, Massachusetts, USA May 25, 2008 Aroma has hints of light smoke and brazil nuts. More light smoke in the flavor with a nutty finish. Not bad. clueo (88), Pennsylvania, USA May 1, 2008 Great appearance and nice head upon pour. The smell is a bit like coffee and the taste is a nice bitter earthy flavor.
