Mild citrus aroma.
The flavor starts off bitter, with a buttery malty middle that finishes with a long lingering bitter finish. Sregnar35 (732), Rotterdam, New York, USA

Citrus and pine in the nose. Caramel. Could do with stronger malt presence, and the oily hoppiness comes close to being over the top. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 12, 2005 Bottle thanks to Joeec5. Chestnut color with a good size tan head. Aroma is mainly piney hops with a mild butterscotch background. Flavor was again hop dominated with that annoying butterscotch in the background again. Little to no malt flavor detected. joeec5 (204), bayonne, New Jersey, USA

Flavor is bitter and astringent with a hoppy initial bite finishing with some unwelcomed butter. Dorwart (1829), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 10, 2005 Very large light tan head. Good carbonation. Settles very slowly. Unexpected color. Quite dark for an IIPA. Kind of a dark ruby/brown. Nice hoppy aroma. Mostly citrus and a nice soft touch of vanilla and roasted grains. Quite dry and bitter. Little fruityness with a hint of tartness. Grapes, roasted grains, more hops and a decent alcohol presence. Could use a little more in the body to be IIPA. I am sure that they are basing that on the alcohol content and the hops presence. Coats the mouth after the swallow. Light biterness and dryness at the finish with a lingering pasty/bitter film. Not a typical IIPA but one that I am finding myself drawn too. Maybe it is the nice rack of the wench on the bottle. I am rather easy to please. SETANTA (581), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 5, 2005 The style listed didn’t seem to apply... reminded me more of a Suffolk Ale, a hopped up version of an ESB. The aroma hops balanced the malt well, the alcohol level was unexpected. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 4, 2005 Pours a reddish-brown with a decent ivory head. Lots of lace. Smells of hops, lots of citrusy hops. Mandarin orange and tangerine in the nose. Bittersweet aroma.
OK, no sweet citrusy hops in the mouth. Well, maybe a little. But mostly this is just powerful bitingly bitter hops. The malt comes in late with some smoky caramel maltiness to provide a bit of balance. But really, who are we kidding? This is a tribute to hops and the hops shine though beautifully. Not that balanced really. A bitter hops aftertaste that lingers forever. I can lick my cheeks and still get the oily hops off with my tongue. Pretty drinkable if you like the hops. Right up there with Ruination IMFO.
