Big malty taste with touches of spices and mint. Sweet, candied finish with an earthy bitterness. Not "to-style" in my opinion, but a good ale. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 24, 2005 Woodsy hop aroma, raw, bursting and resinous, minty and clean, with hints of pine and lemon, while the malt is reminiscent of many East Coast hoppy beers; sweet malts, with hints of berries and caramel, jolly ranchers, seemingly covered in sugars and light alcohol. Sweet and sugary, salty, bitter and alcoholic, with a bursting and extreme amount of juicy, oily hops, which seems to be in an English, herbaceous type way. The malt is juicy and full. A very good beer. morehops (39), Pennsylvania, USA

I had this on tap in my beermeister and it is so well balanced that, after 5 mugs, the alcohol sneeks up on you. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2005 on tap at jp macgradys, pours a dark amber with a full tan head. huge sweet hop nose, plus a little bit of sweet malts and yeast. flavor was a nice solid balance between loads of bitter hops and caramel malts. body was smooth but there was a huge bitterness to the end of the mouthful that i thought was more than the average IIPA. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 16, 2005 Out of a tap at local pub, nice deep color to it. Nice nose, seemed a bit floral to me. Definit hints of butterscotch. Overall not bad but not enough to keep me interested for a second. TAR (2093), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 12, 2005 Chestnut in color. Sustained frothy foam with small clumpy islands. Punctual lemon oil and pine bark nose with nutty, lightly-buttered toasted malt scents. Chalky phenolic hints. Creamy and soft, but a tad fuzzy. Firmly bodied with a cedary Ringwood yeast impression that augments the saliva-soaking earth and pine lash. Persistently chalky and dry, becoming more so with soundly structured barky malt highlights. Ringwood yields lots of dryness and very little butter. Brief leafy hop acidity along with a secondary lemon edge, couples with the airiness to lessen the body a notch while the overt cleanliness keeps the supple hop resins from taking foothold. Earthy hops remain brashly punishing, though, which is a plus. Finishes briskly dry and equally firm with a lightly roasty twang with a gorgeous aftertaste of nuts, husky malts, and earthy hop bitterness. Just shy of divine. Thanks, ElJefe. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2005 Thanks I believe goes to ElJefe for the brew! Pours a ruby hue with a nice frothy head and good lace. The aroma has notes of leafy pine, caramelized and toasted malts, allspice and pepper, and minor cranapple. The taste starts bitter but is balanced nicely by the malts. The undertones of citric notes run throughout and add some depth of palate. A touch of pine and mineral upon the finish. The feel is lively and metallic. Overall a good beer with leanings towards the classic british IPA’s more than the hop monsters of America. I can dig it, how bout you?
