There is a big hoppy aroma of mostly pine. The taste is mostly hops, with some pine and some more hops with maybe a slight hint of caramel. Not a bad beer, but there are many better in this style weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 15, 2005 Appears a light orange with a small white cap that fades into a mild film. Streaky lacing is left behind.
Smell is of orange, pine, caramel, biscuit malts, and butter.
Taste is of orange, pine, with sweet caramel malt trying to come through.
Mouthfeel is unbalanced with lots of hops and offset bitterness that dominates.
Drinkability...don’t believe the hype. A bit of a let down IMHO. fatty (363), Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 11, 2005 Bright orange-brown color, nice lacing. Fruity aroma, lots of citrus and some melon notes. Nicely balanced example of the style. The bitterness never overpowers and the hints of malt sweetness are kept in check by the hops. Caramel, oranges and pine all come through in the flavor. One of, if not the , best beers from Middle Ages. hopdog (5590), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 11, 2005 22oz bottle shared courtesy of weeare138 (thanks!). Poured a medium amber color with an averaged sized lightly off white head. Aromas of oranges, citrus, light pine and some caramel. Tastes pretty much the same as the aroma with somewhat of a buttery quality to it. I found the aromas and tastes to be a little on tame side for the way I like my Double IPAs. Alcohol content hidden (I didn’t detect any at all). TomDecapolis (3173), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of sweet floral hops, pine and orange. Flavor is slightly bitter with some pine and a bit of an alcohol burn. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA

Pours a cloudy dull orange with a decent off-white head. Quick orange sweetness is instantly dominated by a huge grapefruit hop finish. This is one hoppy beer. Alcohol is masked very well.
