unpretentious in you’re face ipa. some alcohol and a nice caramel/toffee base that is quite clean (remarkably so). add to that a moderate attack of quality hops that do compete with the alcohol. hop profile of a touch floral and pine resin with a bit of citrus. lingering bitter yet clean finish. odd that it has a broomstraw aroma. a bit harsh right out of the bottle this brew settles down quick and turns creamy and a bit slick and sweet. this adds to the overall score in my mind. looks refreshing but is too substantive.

Not a bad drink, but it is really a barleywine. Too sweet and malty to be an IIPA. The ringwood character seemed to be muted by the malt and hops.

Bottle. Pours a very clear amber with a frothy white head that quickly diminishes leaving loads of lace clinging to the glass. The aroma is very hoppy and a light citrus. Tastes sweet and hoppy with a bit of a bite. Gains in maltiness as it warms.

Hazy, pale body with a medium-sized off-white head. The aroma is sweet, grapefruit, tangerine, catty and caramel. The flavor is fairly sweet, moderately bitter, cotton candy, catty, grapefruit, orange peal, tea and caramel. Medium/full body is dense with moderate carbonation. Too sweet, too much crystal.

Small white head. Orangey body. Tropical fruit, citrus, and malts aroma with a sharpish herbal background. Dry, sharpish herbal citric taste, very clean. Quite edgy. Dry herbal grainy aftertaste. Very nice! (0.66l bottle at glouglouburp’s.)

Clear golden body with a small off-white head. Kick-ass aroma of piney hops and caramel. Taste is not up to the aroma but quite pleasant nonetheless. Solid body full of sweet caramel and light buttery touch. Intense hops presence with a flavour somewhere between fresh orange juice and pine-tree. Light astringency. Sharp medium-high bitterness. Very nice clean and well-balanced Double IPA. I wish they would have pushed the envelop a bit more, a little more coarse and a little less clean would have been even better. But eh, that’s a X Double IPA, not a XXX Double IPA.

Bomber, labeled as "X - 10th Anniversary Ale". Poured a clear, fiery medium orange with a creamy cap of beige head and some sticky lacing as it descended. The aroma was quite boozy with muted hop presence (likely age-related).. some juicy pear and grapefruit remain with solid caramel and toffee backing.. nose became sweeter and more enjoyable as it warmed up. Strong again on the flavor front, primarily with alcohol amplifying sweet caramel and sliced lighter fruits.. more bitterness on the back-end with grapefruit and perfumey notes present. Heavier-bodied and rather syrupy on the palate.. a little sharp with the booze factor and only decent balance to it. Good stuff!

(Rating #1164)
